an engagement ring is the ring he gave you when he proposed. it could be the biggest diamond, the smallest ruby, a cigar band or a ring out of the bubble gum machine.
your ring sounds lovely and it sounds like the perfect engagement ring!
happy wedding!

I've heard of trash the dress, but not trash the ring. I thought it was traditional to wear your e-ring alongside your wedding ring? That's what I plan on doing. I would never want to trash the ring. My engagement ring is really special to me, and it can be worn everyday - 24/7, if you like. In the end, it's your decision, but I don't really understand why. Trashing the ring would give you far fewer pictures than trash the dress, and the pictures aren't nearly as easy to get... At least a wedding dress can be cleaned or repaired, but if you want that ring back, you're going to have to do some serious digging.

They never put engagement ring on the box, ever. It can be any ring, it does not have to have a diamond in it at all.

I am assuming you are the soon to be bride? Do you like the ring? Diamonds are traditional but there is no rule saying you can only accept a diamond ring. Talk to your fiance and discuss the ring if you don't like it or want something else, maybe he can't afford anything else right now. But otherwise, congrats!

okay, nothing comes with "engagement ring" on the "box." and also, think about all this before you jump in. are you even graduated from high school? you need more than a year to know if this is "it". but to answer the question, any sort of ring is fine as long as you are happy with it.

You know to be engaged... all he has to say is "Will you marry me" and you say "yes" and you are engaged! The ring is traditional, but not necessary... therefore any ring can be an engagement ring. Non traditional rings are being used more and more!

You can have ANY ring be an engagement ring. It doesn't HAVE to be diamonds.

it doesn't have to be a specific engagement ring that he bought from a store or anything it could be something that he found from the bottom of his heart, I have a marquise blue topaz as my engagement ring, and a sapphire hearted cladagh ring from my wedding band.
so it doesn't have to be what all the jewelry stores say.
