It doesnt matter what your mom thinks of him because she's not dating him- you are. i give you kudos for dating a guy because he has a good personality and is generous with gifts and his feelings for you. Looks dont matter and if your mom just cant accept that and let you be happy then maybe you just need to tell her that it hurts your feelings when she says stuff like that. Say ' Hey what are you gonna do if I marry this guy?" You never know what could happen!

It sounds like your mom is either shallow, or she's threatened by a guy you could really get close to. Have you dated much before, with your mom's knowledge? If she knows about the presents, she may think he wants too much from you, and may be using his looks as an excuse.
Try to reassure her that what you do is for yourself...and you won't be intimidated. Your mom may make thoughtless remarks, but I think she just thinks you're getting too serious.
However, if your mother says it's because of his looks alone, you're not doing anything wrong.

Your mother probably dislikes him not because he is a little over weight but he is crossing the line at this point in the relationship by trying to buy your attention. That would bum me out too. He should not be buying you diamond anything and mom has every right to be ticked off by this. He may be a really great guy and maybe the one for you--but I do see some red flags.

Hi--
I know exactly your situation, i like this guy for his personality and i think hes sweet and cute, but my mom is the same way. I think you are totally doing the right thing, just make sure your mom knows how much he means to you.

Oh my gosh! DO NOT listen to your mother in this situation!!! If you guys have chemistry, don't let it go! It's so hard to make true connections with people these days; who cares if he looks like an Abercrombie model or not. Don't question your genuine feelings, and thank God you found someone who makes you so happy!!! :-D

Ask her if she like you dating a guy that good looking but beats you and force you to have sex. Then ask her if your father gain weight will she leave him? As long the guy good to you and care about you, your mother should be happy for you.

Obviously your mom is a *****. Get with the guy, and kudos for being a good person.
Unless you only want him for what he's giving you. In which case you're a ***** too.
But I think you just like him because he's sweet and wonderful, so go you.

I agree that you shouldn't date for looks. I'm more concerned about the expensive gifts that he's bought for you. He could feel that he must overcompensate for his looks by purchasing and giving expensive items. I would talk to him about the expensive items because of your ages. If you are still attracted to him without all the bling, bling then you know your feelings are sincere despite his looks.

You're mother sounds very superficial. You sound like very level headed young woman , he sounds like a really nice guy, you never know babe, he may be "the one"
Explain to your Mom that looks arnt important to you & that you really like this guy, never know she might see past looks & realise he IS a nice guy & WILL treat you right.
Good luck babe, stay strong.

You're doing an admirable thing...you have my respect, but that girl just called your mother a hag...she has to be dealt with. Want me to write her a stiff note? And there's another one! (I don't even know what she said, but it can't be good..)
Listen up people: Everyone has an occasional difference with a parent, but that doesn't mean they're receptive to you bashing their folks. Knock that crap off!
