When less than 1% of nurses were male, the concept of the dress stockings and cap was a cute idea, but is now actually sexually discriminating against the male nurse. Or if you don't like the uniform, it is sexually discriminating in favor of the male nurse.
Scrubs are over all a better idea, they are easier to care for than a starched white uniform. They don't stain as badly, and if stained you replace the pants or shirt and not a whole dress. Here near our main medical centers, you can get a set of scrubs for $14 and even less during sales. Finally, people can agree what to wear if the approved dress is scrubs. Some people dress very inappropriately given the leeway of, go by a white uniform.
Personally, I am even glad to be out of the scrubs most of the time, and being able to go to work in a suit.

There should be more of a uniform, that's for sure. The last time that I was in the hospital (years ago), I couldn't tell which were the nurses and which weren't because they were all wearing something different.
Maybe at least the cap.

I wanted to get a cap, but they dont do that anymore. Then again, I am a guy and they thought I was just stupid. Going back to white is a good idea, though.

Wearing all white makes the nurse more professional looking. The down side to wearing white is getting blood on uniform. All nurses know how to get blood stains removed. We did not receive caps when I graduated. Since I work in surgery I wear scrubs, but we have one nurse that works near us and still wears her white uniform and cap. Everyone talks about how professional she is and looks.

I always thought it would be cool if nurses wore those white dresses with white stocking and white shoes and the little white hat, with a red cross on the cap and one on the right side of the dress. Scrubs aren't very complimenting on women, but then again they're more comfortable, and more merciful on people with unattractive figures.

The caps are supposed to be very unhygienic (they cannot be cleaned easily) and would probably be banned anyway for this reason in this day & age. (Doctors coats are being banned in the UK for the same reason as is all jewelry, acrylic nails etc--MRSA etc); and I agree, dresses and skirts are a bit revealing when stooping & lifting etc. White is a nice color tho.

I wouldn't want to wear the skirts- too revealing when I am leaning over a bed. I think color coded scrubs make the most sense. Nurses in one color, Rad techs in another, etc.

No, but I do wish my nursing school still gave them out, just for nurses to have a keepsake, to put in a curio cabinet. It's the true nursing symbol. I just want one. But, it would suck to have to wear it!!!!!!!!!

Hell no! I don't want to go back to the days when nurses were thought of as Dr's servants or even slaves.
