Yeah, his parents probably won't let him date until he's 16, and even then, he can only take you bowling with about 5 of his friends, and you have to be home by 10 pm. I'm not being facetious, that's just the way it is. I think it's a pretty good policy, myself. Keeps kids out of trouble.
My cousin met her future husband at a stake dance, both were 14. They couldn't date until they were 16. They spent those 2 years passing notes in class. After that, they went steady (although, not really supposed to) and broke up when he went on his mission. She dated other guys until he got back, then they got married. They always knew they were destined for each other--it was too easy.
Me--I'm 40 and still looking, but hey. . .

Right they can't date till their 16. Nothing happends when your 14.
And maybe you should take a clue from the guy you like. There really isn't a reason to dating other then to find a mate in life. That is the whole purpose of dating.
It blows me away how teenagers act now with the whole dating thing. It takes the joy and passion out of finding someone to marry.

Good friendships can be developed at any age.
And 14 is important because it is the age when LDS kids get to go to dances that the church puts on. These dances are actually really fun, but a bit different from school dances as the slow dances are often used as a time to meet people and talk - I went to a lot of these dances growing up; and always had a blast. Maybe you can ask this guy about them.
Have fun

Mormons can be, and are, friends with everyone and at any age of life.
Dating, as it is a means to find a spouse, is not encouraged until after 16. Before that time, there is really no reason to be dating and thus seeking a mate.

lYou are too young to date, you should just talk on the phone and see if his parents will let you hang around. Dating is getting t know someone. You can do this by mail and phone, if things don't work out. Two years will fly by.
ON the ohter hand from what some have said yo could have your parents approach his and see what can be done. Then as one has said they cgo to dances. See if you cannot go to the dances. If not you can join them and be closer to him.
So of this will help you decide if he is the right one for you and if you want to get married and be together for the rest of your lifes. If not and he is still around after two years of mail and talking on the phone then it means he is interested in you or just unpopular. Naw. Take care.

My kids didn't date, one-on-one, until they were 16. There were lots of group activities before and after that age.
However, this decision had nothing to do with the church. As parents we decided that was the age. We followed the Church's suggestion but parents need to be parents and not let others do the job for you.
BTW, I was 16 also. It really doesn't kill you to wait until you are older and more capable of handling the issues of dating. In addition, a younger KID might be more susceptible to influences about sex before marriage.

Be friends. Get groups of friends together (that aren't paired up) and do things. Play games. Watch movies, etc.
......by the way, Mormons are encouraged to date other Mormons.

It's up to the parents but they SUGGEST age 16.
If the parent say age 16, like mine did and I DID, they don't date until they are 16.
They go to church dances at age 14! Group things are fun.

The rules have recently been updated to include a proviso about parental decision (regarding group dating before age 16), but when I was a teenager the rules were
You can group date from the time that you are 16
Then single date from 18
The best way to find out is to read the booklet for the strength of youth. It outlines the standards that we have for our youth. http://www.lds.org/ldsorg/v/index.jsp?vgnextoid=59cf5f74db46c010VgnVCM1000004d82620aRCRD&locale=0&sourceId=3f46be335dc20110VgnVCM100000176f620a____

You're right, 16 is when the teens can date. Of course it's ultimately up to his parents.
