The Hong Kong market is much more mature and developed at this time than the Chinese, the offer is much more varied. Hong Kong prices are slightly below USA prices since (income) taxes are very low.
In mainland China the prices are under strong competition, but most items are very similar within a small variety of offer. If you want special items such as large diamonds, fancy shaped diamonds, colored diamonds, the offer is close to nothing in mainland China. The famous retail brands from the West are very highly priced, especially now the parity of the USD is low compared to the Rinminbi.
