I would say follow your heart. Both active duty and National Guard are needed and honorable. God be with you!

I'm in the Air National Guard. Your decision depends on whether or not you want to hold down a civilian job, go to school, stay in one place, or move around often and have a full time military career. I think the Guard is a wonderful opportunity. I've traveled, met awesome people, learned a great deal and am getting paid to finish college. My husband is in the Army Guard as well; we did not wish to get transferred around to different bases (not to mention it's incredibly difficult to get active duty service members from two different services stationed near each other). There are also plenty of full-time jobs available at Guard bases. But active duty is a whole different way of life with its pros and cons as well. Evaluate your priorities and determine what your best fit would be. Good luck!

In light of the fact that we are currently in skirmishes/wars throughout the world many of those enlisted in the National Guard are being activated and being deployed all over the globe. National Guard does not necessarily mean you will stay in your home state; the National Guard works for the benefit of America. When thinking about going active, do you want to see action, do you want to be in the midst of the fighting? If so the marines or army are where you want to be. If you'd like to be active but out of the fighting, the best chance is in the air force. Good Luck!

My advise is go Active, better chance of getting your MOS and a shorter initial commitment.
If you like the military life you can always re-up but if you go NG they gotcha for 6 years.
Personally, as a Viet Nam Vet, I consider anyone who does more than 18 months a "lifer"
(early out for 14 months active combat duty).

Hi: I served 41/2 years in the US Army 82nd Airborn,.
( paratroopers) I got out with an hororable discharge and as a Sgt E5. I joyned in becouse I dint Think I had any other option, and I was told That I could go to college latter on.
At the time of my discharge eveything turn out to be a big lie, the GI bill $ to go to schooll was not sufficient, me and most of my buddies came out with a heavy alcohol problem and there was consuling by the VA, I had a problems to get employment becouse I didnt learn anything but to kill, finally after 4 years I stared getting ahead. I have met lots of guys who served at the time I did, and evertboby agrees that the goverment didt do anything after your discharge
My advise is for you to find any oftion posible including student loans but DO NOT GO IN TO THE MILITARY.

You might want to check out the reserves as well. You can compare Army active duty vs reserves on www.goarmy.com.
