People like acting like a troll. Yet people hate being called a troll. The word troll is almost like the word "***...", if you don't agree with someone or don't like their post you mischaracterize them and call them a troll. Make the poster in everyone's eyes look like the bad person, and you the victim. I personally hate the word troll and people who use it are whiny little babies.

I rest my case, look at the first answer

Eh, that's why when I see questions like that I decide to err on the side of caution and assume that the question is genuine and the person is seeking help. What is the worst that could happen if I give a concerned and helpful answer to a troll? Nothing other than I might waste a bit of time which I was trying to kill anyways. On the other hand....
Think about it: IF someone was suicidal and did post such a question, I'm sure getting rude comments calling them a troll, and then having their question reported and deleted might could send them over the edge.

Y! may have a policy against suicide posts and deleted it without being reported. I would hope they have a policy of reaching out to those people and refering them to a crisis resource.
This probably isn't a good place for someone that bluesy anyway. Some of the insensitive posts that are posted here may just trigger a person in the state of mind even more. It would not surprise me if a wise cracker would actually respond "with a shotgun blah blah blah", kwim? It's sad to say, but it was probably in that person's best interest ~ to protect them is what I mean.
I hope there is a team of yamsters to help people like this.

you're stretching it, lol.. with an equality rant (approximately Trolls?): because of the fact the trolls are quite often teenage boys, of their rooms or basements of their mom's residing house -- who might actually be on a similar time... upstairs in her room, attempting to tease teenage boys & look eye-catching together with her very own 360 and myspace %.... women people do no longer surf the internet with one hand, with their underclothes at their ankles for hours (hi?). women people have extra powerful issues to do, extra suitable than no longer. Than even answer those questions right here, on Yahoo, much less survive right here for hours pretending their nameless attack-monkeys. in uncomplicated terms a teenager boy or immature guy might waste that style of time. and that's been the case, on Yahoo for 7-8 years.. while the assumption improve into INVENTED on the information-Chat rooms that have been out of control. the ladies that are 'trolls' are extra of a tease, or a showy character -- openly verbal approximately teasing, etc. the lads, are attacking and abusive verbally, notwithstanding a topic matter.

No,I don't think so. Anti-troll measures are slowly beginning to exhibit some signs of effectiveness. As to the posting you reference,I missed it but that is endangerment and under the guidelines it had to be removed. I do hope Y/A notified the authorities to do a police welfare check. But that's assuming the poster registred her real identity - which is unlikely, although a trace could be put on her computer. I see where you're coming from - it would have made sense to try to keep her online - but we do have young people on Y/A and there are limits as to what can be permitted. This could have been a real or fake psychodrama, but it is best handled offline by the webserver and the police.

I get very worried when I see someone threatening suicide. I hate it when people are mean to them..What if that drives them over the line and kill themselves! Let's error on the side of kindness..nothing is lost if they are a troll..if they are serious you may save a life!

Why should only trolls be reported? What if that possibly suicidal girl that got reported just because it's a disturbing question that you shouldn't ask?

I never report anybody.
The line between been a troll and been "normal" is very thin.

Troll questions are silly and sometimes annoying.
I don't report them....but I'm not mad when their question gets deleted.
This is not a public forum....this place has rules and guidelines...if we don't like them we don't have to come here.
