Why can't gay people admit that they are Christophobes?

2007-12-09 14:17:47 · answer #1 · answered by Todd P 4 · 7 4

Because there are different definitions for "homophobe" and only one fits me. So I will say yes I am one if the definition is and only is a person that believes homosexual relations are sinful. I will not say I am one if the definition is related to hate, or fear of such people or even if the first definition lumps people who feel tempted that way but resist into the "sinful" category.

Well said Xylocopa. Although I would add that perhaps we need to develop lingo for Christianphobes or homophobe-phobes to be fair.

Homophobia is a misnomer.

Those who object do not have an "irrational fear" of those who practice homosexual behaviors. The aversion is about the behavior, not the person. People have the right to eat dog **** if they want. Many would be repulsed by those who enjoy and participate in this behavior, especially if it is done in public. What you regard as discrimination is actually loathing and disgust. It's not a hard concept to understand, in spite of the media emphasis and homosexual agenda to convince people to accept it as normal or even natural.

Let's get it straight (pardon the pun)...
We don't hate gays, we are just disgusted by what they do.

Out in the open enough for you?

We all have grown up around gays and they were just as personable as anyone. It is when they try to push their societal changes for the few over the many that I find them completely arrogant and antagonistic. The new SB777 in California is about as pathetic as you can get. I hope all the teachers walk out the day it is initiated.

i reckon most people who are homophobic are also fearful that it is contagious....people need to let go of telling others what is right or wrong with their sexuality...i think they know already. A bi or homosexual really dont care to hear it a thousand times a day

Simple, if I were to go to Castro street in San Francisco and say that, I'll be thrown in jail for some sort of atempted hate crime.

Am not homosexual, but could care less what consenting adults do in their own bedrooms.

BTW, homosexuality and bisexuality occurs in the animal kingdom, other primates included. So, is not exactly 'unnatural'.

That's your word. Not mine.

I've said it before, and I'll say it again: I don't see what benefit accrues to society from these men's obsessions with each others' penises and rectums. If they want my pity they can have that. I don't see why we need to celebrate them.

Your use of the language of psychiatry -- calling my viewpoint a "phobia" -- is interesting. So let me see if I understand your position correctly -- if a man likes to have anal sex with other men, that, in your view, is normal. If this practice disgusts me, then I must be sick -- and presumably need to be subjected to the tender mercies of the psychiatric profession. If that's what you believe, then you are the one who is sick.

What does the Bible say about homosexuality?

Rom. 1:24-27: “God, in keeping with the desires of their hearts, gave them up to uncleanness, that their bodies might be dishonored among them . . . God gave them up to disgraceful sexual appetites, for both their females changed the natural use of themselves into one contrary to nature; and likewise even the males left the natural use of the female and became violently inflamed in their lust toward one another, males with males, working what is obscene and receiving in themselves the full recompense, which was due for their error.”

1 Tim. 1:9-11: “Law is promulgated, not for a righteous man, but for persons lawless and unruly, ungodly and sinners, . . . fornicators, men who lie with males, . . . and whatever other thing is in opposition to the healthful teaching according to the glorious good news of the happy God.” (Compare Leviticus 20:13.)

Jude 7: “Sodom and Gomorrah and the cities about them, after they . . . [had] gone out after flesh for unnatural use, are placed before us as a warning example by undergoing the judicial punishment of everlasting fire.” (The name Sodom has become the basis for the word “sodomy,” which usually designates a homosexual practice. Compare Genesis 19:4, 5, 24, 25.)

What is the attitude of true Christians toward those who have a history of homosexuality?

1 Cor. 6:9-11: “Neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor men kept for unnatural purposes, nor men who lie with men . . . will inherit God’s kingdom. And yet that is what some of you were. But you have been washed clean, but you have been sanctified, but you have been declared righteous in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ and with the spirit of our God.” (Regardless of such a background, if persons now abandon their former unclean practices, apply Jehovah’s righteous standards, and exercise faith in his provision for forgiveness of sins through Christ, they can enjoy a clean standing before God. After reforming, they may be welcomed in the Christian congregation.)

True Christians know that even deeply rooted wrong desires, including those that may have a genetic basis or that involve physical causes or environmental factors, are not insurmountable for persons who truly want to please Jehovah. Some people are by nature highly emotional. Perhaps in the past they gave free rein to fits of anger; but knowledge of God’s will, the desire to please him, and the help of his spirit enable them to develop self-control. A person may be an alcoholic, but, with proper motivation, he can refrain from drinking and thus avoid becoming a drunkard. Likewise, a person may feel strongly attracted to others of the same sex, but by heeding the counsel of God’s Word he can remain clean from homosexual practices. (See Ephesians 4:17-24.) Jehovah does not allow us to go on thinking that wrong conduct really makes no difference; he kindly but firmly warns us of the consequences and provides abundant help for those who want to “strip off the old personality with its practices, and clothe [themselves] with the new personality.”—Col. 3:9, 10.

Because in my case it wouldn't be true. I'm straight but I have homosexual Friends and relatives. They are great people.

Phobia is an irrational fear. I am not afraid of homosexuals at all. I happen to believe that those who are actively living the lifestyle are sinning, but I am not afraid of them. In fact, I've really never met anyone who was afraid of homosexuals. I'm not saying those people don't exist, I've just never met them.
