My German bible says Liebe. My KJV says charity....and to me it makes a big difference in how it reads in 1 Cor. 13....

The original meaning of "charity" was love; the meaning of the word in English has changed over the centuries to mean alms, pity, etc. In the original Greek, it's godly love.

Charity had a broader meaning at the time of the translation of the KJV. Charity means love in the KJV.

I would have to say it is love, based on the context & Jesus's statement: "Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends." (John 15:13) Because that is what he did.
So "...the greatest of these is love." And God so loved the world that he sent his only Son...and the greatest love a man can have is to lay down his life for his friends.
We know the sacrifice of Jesus was the ultimate display of love, so I would gather that it is "love" instead of "charity."

it means love, but it is agape love not eros love. Look the words up it will help you.
