I really like rings with pave settings, but they seem to be kinda trendy right now. I was just wondering if people think that 10+ years from now they'll seem dated or if they are timeless and classic enough to stand up to changes in fashion.
Here are some examples:

Just curious really (I've been getting lots of jewelry catalogs in the mail lately). I like them a lot and usually my tastes are very classic and traditional so I was just wondering what others thought. Thanks! :)

Yeah, they do seem kinda antique looking...maybe that's why i like them! I also like princess cut solitaires but I just think these are a cool and interesting alternative.

i think that they will seem a bit dated, yes. but so do most things after a while. the only things that do not go out of style are the solitares and that sort of thing. but get what makes you happy. 10 years dated or not, you will be the one looking at it for the rest of your life.

The pave setting has been around for centuries (probably). I know I've seen antique jewelry with pave settings, I've seen lots of pre-victorian jewelry with pave settings.
I agree that ANY setting that's popular now will seem dated in 10 years--and you shouldn't let that bother you. I've been married for almost 20 years. My wedding set was a solitarie with a curved band, and the wedding band nested under the engagement ring. VERY hot in the 1980's, I don't know if you could find it now--you'd have to look. For our 20th anniversary, my hubby and I had my ring reset into a platinum setting, and he got a new ring as well. So, look at it that way--in 20 years, you'll have an excuse to "upgrade!" ;-)

I don't think so. That looks like it could be a style that could turn out to be classic. The thing is you have to get a style that you will be comfortable wearing. It's not about size of the diamond.

No, it won't look dated. That style was actually very popular in the 20's and 30's- but it still looks lovely today. If my husband had asked me what kind of ring I wanted, that's what I would have chosen.

Of course they will. All engagement ring styles go through phases, even solitaires.
No matter what ring you get now, it will be dated in 10 years. So what. People will just know you got engaged 10 years ago.

I would think so. But then in another 10-20 years they will be fashionable again. Strange world, the world of fashion

Yes, they will. I don't like them, either.
The only classic is the solitaire, or a centre stone with smaller shoulder stones.

Get a style you love. Everything will look dated at some point.

Yep....is already becoming outdated. It's quality---Pave rings have less expensive little chips in them.
