"Blue Flu"
They cant strike...They just call in "sick"...

According to the administrative codes and the police code of ethics, we cannot strike. We have been sworn to uphold the law, protect and serve society. If we strike we can be fired.

We are bound by binding arbitration. When that fails: "blue flu"

This tactic is not done nowadays. When we do not work, we cause a work shortage. We can endanger our fellow officers who chose to work. We endanger the public and they pay us to protect and serve them. It was not the public who chose not to negotiate, it was the administration.

Now a days we: call a work slow down:

We can slow down the system by working but doing everything at a slower pace. The courts, judges, get their calenders done and go on a schedule. If we disrupt that schedule by getting a client to court late, we can disrupt hearings, motions, slow down the whole system that depends on us to operate in a fast an efficient manner. The judges know what is happening and one will usually find a contempt proceeding for us against the administration for not dealing fairly with the arbitration process.

Since usually it's against the law for a police officer or group to go out on strike, when they want to do so they call in "sick". This is usually known by the nickname of "blue flu".
