I am a RN & just started this new job 3 mos ago. I work day/eve now, but want to go to just days. I found out you have to write a letter of request for a shift change. This is the process and they do not go by seniority. I figured I would have to wait for seniority, but this not being the case; I would like to get off evenings now. Any suggestions for letter etique w/o sounding greedy?

DOn't sound greedy. Simply make the request. Just state that you are unable to adapt your sleep pattern to work the evening shift and it is affecting your ability to perform at your best. This is a common request, and they should be ready for the request. They may have someone who wants off days, because they don't want the heavy workload normally associated with the day shift.

I was a nurse for years - an LVN - or LPN - just make the request. It can't hurt - tell them you prefer days. It's a harder shift to work and busier on days, another idea is to ask to see if someone will switch with you might be a possibility. Remember - YOU - are in high demand and can get a job probably anywhere on a day shift even if it takes a few months to find it.... Good luck ... Thanks for the work that you do too I know how busy it can be....another idea would be to say that you prefer the more rigorous challenges that a day shift offers you compared to an evening shift when you find things might get slow, and that you would rather work in a more challenging environment, this would show you have incentive...
