very soft like liquid?

Pumpkin pie is really a custard with pumpkin in it. the egg needs to cook enough to set, or get "hard". When cooked and cooled, it will have the consistency of a firm pudding, but it would hold it's shape when you cut it, and not soup out.

You should bake your pie until a knife inserted near the center comes out clean. Pie should be firm and not mushy. What you're making when you bake a pumkin pie is really a custard in a pie shell. Make sure it's well done because of the eggs in it.

This why I prefer making pumpkin cake or bread. It has the same flavor as pumpkin pie without the mushy texture.

Pumpkin pie should be like a custard in it's filling. It should hold it's shape firmly on the plate but still be creamy in your mouth.
