okay. i got a mac on september 6 of this year and my friend got one roughly a month after me. we have the panther operating system, not leopard. what version of ichat should we have? we are trying to use video effects, if it helps here is how we are trying to do it: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=iChat/4.0/en/11879.html.

If you've both done all your OS X updates, you both have the same version. To verify, open iChat and click on click on Help or look in Preferences
Then, you both need either a DOTmac account or both need an AIM account and password. On on DOTmac and one on AIM doesn't work.

video effects in iChat are only available with ichat 4.0 (which is included in the leopard operating system) if your version of ichat is anything other than 4.0, then you are not able to use ichat effects with video chats.
