Everyone deploys in the Army!

Combat Arms Soldiers move to contact and it's their job to engage the enemy offensively.

Combat Support Soldiers are right there with the Combat Arms Soldiers, driving, communicating, gathering intel, Patching up the wounded. CS Soldiers operate in both the Offense and the defense with CA Soldiers.

Combat Service Support Soldiers are on the Forward Operating Bases providing Human Resources support (pay, promotions, mail, etc..).

All of them are in the Comabt Zone and all of them fight in the defense.

In the Army, you are a soldier first, your MOS second. Think of the Battle of the Bulge, how many cooks got a gun thrust on them and sent to the front. Look at the bright side, you can finally EARN your pay.

YES.

I'm a 74D - which is chemical. When I was downrange, we didn't have much for our job to do so they tasked us out to do convoy security and combat patrols.

Therefore, I saw plenty of combat even though I'm just the NBC side.

As a matter of fact, the badguys in Iraq like to target the people in non-combat roles. Infantry soldiers shoot back faster. We call it, "Not being the soft target".
