She has a collar on and its not working. I have another cat who I checked and he doesn't have them yet and I don't want him to.

My dad said trying to bathe her is dangerous (since she's about 4 months old) so how do I get rid of them?

There is this stuff called I think Frontline...You put 3 drops between the shoulders and thats it. Do it for both cats reguardless of which has them and which don't. Then vaccum the rugs and throw away the bag as soon as you are done.

First, does the cat actually have fleas? If so (you have seen them), then here is the plan.
1. All animals within the household need to be treated (Frontline is an excellent choice). Regardless of what you use, you will still see fleas on the cat for several weeks.

2. Vacuum the house and throw the vacuum bag away.

3. Treat the house with a product that kills adult fleas and also contains an IGR (insect growth regulator).

4. Continue to treat the animals according to the directions of the product you are using for at least 3 months.

5. Treat the house again in 6 weeks.

There is not an immediate, easy way to take care of a flea problem, but if you continue to follow up you will see a decrease in the number of fleas and ultimately no more flea problem.

Flea collars only repel fleas around her head. They do not kill fleas. The best thing to do is call the vet and ask them what flea medicine would be best for her. Revolution, Advantage, and Frontline are some that come to mind. If she has fleas though there is a 99% chance the other cat already has fleas too.

Bathing her really won't be a huge problem if you take your time.

Take her into the bathroom and close the door, then set her in the tub. Turn the water on slowly and let it fill the tub up about an inch or so, and let her get used to it. You'll probably have to hold her to keep her from jumping out, but don't worry about it - wear gloves it you feel you really need to! :]

I use a shampoo called Sergeant's Skip-Flea and Tick Shampoo and it's for cats only. It works extremely well.

If you really don't want to bathe her, you can buy capsulized flea medicine that you rub on the back of her neck. I'm not sure what it's called, but you can get it at Wal-mart in the pet department. :]

Hope this helped!

Hi,one of the best flea treatments is Frontline that's why it's recommended by vets, you can buy it over the counter from any vets.I have used it on my kitten for 9 months now and he has not had a single flea on him,It's brilliant stuff. You apply it to the skin not the fur and it will then spread out over the cats skin on its own. This product works very quickly because it stays on the skin only so you do not have to wait for the flea to bite they die very quickly when they get on to the skin. I used some flea bombs to get rid of the fleas in my home they were very effective.Hope this helps,

Yes you're right, flea collars don't work, as you've discovered. Don't bother with them, none work.

You need to pick up some proper flea treatment from a vets - you don't even have to take the cats in to pick up Frontline. No store bought flea treatments are going to work.

I have 4 cats & I bathed 2 of them while they were about the same age as yours for the same reason until I got it under control. You can't use flea meds on them though. Your dad is right about that part. I used Joy dish washing detergant. You will not believe the fleas that come off of them!

Careful what you use for fleas on cats, dog products are often toxic for cats.
Best bet, get a spot on product from the vet. I've had luck with Advantage and Frontline.
