I totally agree with those that tell you to contact the hospital and work something out with them.

If you simply send in payments without having an agreement with the hospital, or ignore the bill, eventually the hospital will probably turn it over to a collector who will place it on your reports and possibly sue.

Hospitals do often work with people as far as taking payments and even reducing the amout owed, but you have to speak with them, get any agreement in writing and stick to the agreement.

If you are low income, hospitals often have lists of different charities that will help pay the bill.

My husband had to go to the emergency room a week after we lost our insurance. It was $1700. We set up a payment plan where we pay a minimum of $25 a month. Most hospitals will work with you on a payment plan that works for you. You should really pay your bill.

in the united states we don't put people in jail for non payment. just pay $20.00- to $50.00 a month remember
if you skip out it will bite you in the worse time. buying a car a house. every one get's medical bills. if nobody paid their would not be hospitals doctors offices.
most credit managers don't look at medical bills that you are paying on.

also they my take a offer of settlement?

It will be turned over for collection and listed on your credit report. You can call the hospital business office and tell them you can pay x-amount each month to avoid this. Or you can just not pay it.

Look, you obviously incurred the debt. Why don't you want to pay it? You obligated yourself by going to the hospital and getting treatment.

What if you went to work, worked for a week or two and then the company said, well, we're not going to pay you for the services you rendered. Would that be fair?

Pay your bill. Set up a repayment plan and stick to it.

Just pay a few dollars a month and they won't bother you.If you don't pay anything then your credit is screwed

Your credit doesn't get ruined with just one instance.
Repeated offenses count more than amounts.
Work out a payment plan.

They'll send you to collections and it will mess up your credit. Hard to say "how bad" it would mess you up, but I'd think pretty bad. Not worth ducking the bill.

The hospital will hound you for awhile. Then turn it over to collections. I would expect a hit on your credit score if you do not pay, especially if a judgement is filed. The hospital provided a service, they should be compensated.

go to the hospital and ask to negotiaite a preferred
provider rate.......the hospitals charge a lot less to the
insurance companies and since you are coming out of pocket
they should discount your bill to about 600
