Cultural acceptance of laziness and ignorance. A large group do not believe in upholding any standards whatsoever, and are dumbing down to the point that eventually they will not even be able to wipe their own ........

hahaha i love that first answer. look people, when you give answers like "teenagers write like that because they're stupid and ignorant" is a really stupid and ignorant thing to say. Sure its lazy, but we are all lazy in our ways, right? dude who wrote the question - you probably come home from work or school and sit on your butt and watch tv and not do an ounce of work around the house or excersize or anything, so you can't complain about other people's laziness got it? yeah im just assuming, but everybody is lazy. you might as well ask "why do people use the escalators instead of stairs?" because its america! and teenagers aren't stupid so stop saying that.

There are two facts about your statement.
First, not everyone does it.
Second, those who do have no desire to communicate with anyone literate.
My advice, just let it go. I skip the questions from people who can't or won't spell correctly or even use a spell checker. It just isn't worth my time to sort out what they are trying to ask. That's right, just not worth the effort.

Any abuse of the english language makes me crazy but the new idealogy of texting and loss of proper english being taught in schools is a problem. Slang has gotten worse and is dissolving the language. We should be more proud and keep it strong but it isn't happening. Parents need to make sure their kids are learning and texting needs to go away.

It does bother me, and I take those people less seriously. I think that they must be some young teenagers just goofing off on the internet.

Computer counter-culture. I do agree it's pretty annoying especially on Y! Answers where I have to crack some code just to get my answer!
