Frankly, there is nothing you can do. But if you have to take dates to your family's home, it would be wise to warn them. Your parents are who they are and you won't be changing them anytime soon if ever.

What can you do? You can join the club. My family is just as bad. My parents are gone now but I have my brother and sister's family. We usually have holiday meals at my sister's house. Her table manners are OK but OMG I would never bring anyone over there to see the rest of them at their troughs.

My hubby's family is like that. I'm okay if we are at someone's home, I've gotten used to it. But I hate family get togethers at restaurants, especially smorgs where they all pile their plates about a foot high. It's like they are making sure the restaurant will not run out of food. I don't know I was always taught you can go back for seconds. It embarasses me to no end. I know it shouldn't as it is a reflection of them and not me, but still it bugs me. I just grosses me out, it is sooo piggy.

Never invite your friends home for a meal and never get them invited to your future in-laws' home for a meal.
