my dog has been in labor for four hours and hasnt delivered a pup yet. we werent aware she was pregnant. we just noticed her breast forming a week or so ago. she was dropped at my house about 2 months ago and she was in heat. she was severly malnourished and we brought her back to health. Do you think the pups are okay and alive and is it normal for her to be in labor this long and not have a pup yet?

Four hours of pushing with no production is a vet emergency. You may have to go miles away, but she needs vet care. Good luck.

Ok first if she is in labor than the pups will be premature. Gestation is 9 weeks. Not 7 or 8. You need to take her the vets right away. Something is wrong.
No it's not normal to be in labor that long and not produce a pup. She needs vet care now.

Some dogs can be in labor for as long as 8 hours. The main thing that you need to watch for...is she pushing? If she has been trying to push the puppy out of the canal for this long, then you need to get her to a vet.

a dogs labor can go on for hours, the main thing is to watch for her bearing down (trying to push for long periods of time. and also watch to make sure she isnt passing any greenish dischange, that is the placenta if you see this you need to get her to a vet right away.

Ok I read your other 2 post, and you do not tell how you know she is in labor? What is she doing, that makes you think this, then maybe one of us you can help better?

4 hours isnt that bad but you may still want to consider bringing her to the vet for a c-section. if the puppies are there too long they wont make it and it could harm the mother if she cant get them out.
