Most (not all) of you may find the bible to be nothing but fairy tales. I know it's full of punishment and sin. but it also talks of love and compassion. Moral stories that we can use in our lives that can help us become better people.
What I guess I am asking, if you think their is anything in the bible that you don't think is a bunch f crap.

Jesus claimed the greatest two commandments were to love God and to love your neighbor.

I don't agree with that first one, since I don't think there's a god to love, but you'll be hard pressed to find me disagreeing with the Golden Rule.

The commandments (except the holiness ones) are pretty good rules for life. You shouldn't kill someone. You should respect your folks. You shouldn't want unjustly what others have. It's even probably a good idea to have a day of rest every few days.

Some historic details of the OT and NT have been verified. There's not a reason to deny it. Some have been shown to be false. Oh well. Doesn't change the ones that are true.

The Bible is basically a historical fiction with a few good ideas sprinkled throughout.

About as much I believe in the ancient roman gods.

Punishment and sin are not only found in the bible, but in other religions too. Look to Buddhism, Hinduism, Islam, and you'll be amaze at the similarities between them. To me, it just seems like they copied off one another. I do not condemn Christianity or other religions. Because of their teachings, humanity have been able to survive so long.

I believe that Jesus existed. He is a influential and good man, but the son of God? That's just something his followers made up.

what I don't like about the bible is that people preaching it obviously don't understand what they read... the bible says things like" don't pray out in the open as the hypocrites do... pray in private" when will the christians learn that one... the bible has many ways of condemning religion but those preaching the bible obviously don't pay attention to those verses... only to the verses that make them condemn others.. in which case the bible says "judge not lest you be judged" that's a warning about karma coming... the bible also says "the devil will be called god of the earth" well what the christians don't see is what they are calling god is this deceiver... and "the devil will deceive many" what more can I say....

Sure, I believe in all of it...just not for the same reasons that Christians do. I do not believe that it is the Word of God, handed down personally to someone with a pencil and nothing better to do. I believe it is a document that lends itself easily to be the centerpiece of a religion that for centuries used fear, intimidation and violence to keep its leaders in power.

If you truly want to understand, may I suggest you check out "The Satanic Verses" by Salman Rushdie?

The Bible is kind of like Aesop's fables and someone's idea of history. It's hard to know what parts are true historical accounts, but it's easy to see what moral lessons can be applicable. The god part of it is worthless, though.

Well, of course, but "Be nice to other people" isn't exactly going out on a limb.

This is supposed to be the sodding Word of God, inspired and perfect, and it's actually horrible in places, and it's uneditable. Leaving the crap about having bears eat people isn't allowed.

As an historic document yes as the word of a god no.

I also believe in Don Quixote in the same way.

Sure. There are some wise things in there.

I don't believe in them *because* they're in the Bible, though. They are things that are common sense. I would have known them without the Bible, too.

If we didn't have religion, honestly, I think people would still have morals, they just wouldn't need some stupid book to tell them what they are. I mean, it IS a symptom of autism to not recognize what's right and what's wrong.
