I've met girls with laughs that are annoying/obnoxious enough that I don't think I could date them based on their laugh alone. I am not a shallow person either. It would just drive me insane though, I could never listen to that on a day in and day out basis. My questions are - can they control this? Do they know their laugh is annoying as hell? If they do, can they change it or are people's laughs like their height and whatever they're given at birth they're stuck with?

Voices, accents, laughs etc. can be relearned. People do it all the time especially if it means it could hamper them in their careers. But the person who exhibits these patterns has to make the choice, not you. If you don't like or are not attracted to someone because of those features you probably don't belong with them. And that's okay. We all have those issues.

I think they can control it to at least some extent.
When a girl likes a guy, she usually laughs a lot around him. Because she's laughing just to amuse but not because she's amused, the laugh is likely fake, maybe even nervous. I think that people can control their laugh if it's fake.
If it's real, that can be another story. I think that it can be controlled at least a little, but if something is absolutely LOL hilarriioous then it's tougher. Give them a leash on that kind.

On the other hand, maybe a girl laughs that way because she thinks you'll think it's cute. Next time, hint, "Gosh, your laugh is so annoying!" but with good humor in your voice as to not be mean. The next time you hear her laugh it may bot be so abnoxious.

I think it is habititual. You can change it if you try. I used to have a more obnoxious laugh and I worked hard to change it. It's not easy, but it's like changing an accent, you just have to work at it.

Stuck with it. I hear my Mother in my own laugh, very often.

You do sound shallow. There are many deeper reasons to choose or not choose the people you spend your life with.
