Can you substitute butter for shortening?

I am baking cookies. Can I use butter instead of shortening ?

Maybe check them a little sooner as butter has a tendency to burn quicker.

Substituting butter might taste OK, but it doesn't cook the same. If the recipe calls for melting the shortening try a 50/50 mix.
