Yes Valhalla is in the cold North and accordingly cooler than a warm and comfortable Heaven.

Valhala is the Mead-Hall of the Gods. It would be like spending eternity in a Biker Bar (or at least until Ragnarok) -- how cool is that? The mead would never run out, and they'd have all the really good beers on tap too, like Blue Moon and Guinness. And Manowar would play there every night, or Iced Earth, or Hammerfall, and occasionally Gwar would make an appearance. That would f*ckin' Rock!
What's the alternative? Sitting on a cloud playing a harp? Please! Valhala is WAY cooler than Heaven!
Valhalla the gods await me
Open wide thy gates embrace me.
Great hall of the battle slain
With sword in hand.
--- Manowar

Bah. I think I like everything more about Asatru with exception to the whole "gods" thing. I just can't go with pantheism.
But I've often thought that heaven sounds dull. I would love a life of combat! Simplistic, honest, with the sweet exhileration of battle, of pushing your body to the limit, the adrenaline rush... it's wonderful!
So Vahalla does sound better than heaven.
But then, if heaven is supposed to be "eternal bliss" and "no tears" and heaven does exist, and I get there *assuming all this is true* then... heaven would have sparring! Lots of it.

If I had to choose just between the two I would probaly pick Valhalla just because the idea of spending a good chunk of eternity in a do-nothing paradise where all we do is sit around and sing the praises of a deity who needs the ego boost gives me the chills.
However I'm not too crazy about spending a good chunk of eternity with a bunch of drunk sword jocks whose idea of fun is spearing each other on a regular basis and then coming back to life to do it again and again and again. Fortunetely among the Norse we have more options as to where we go when we die, and truth to tell most of us on the Norse path, barring military service, are probaly on the Helvegr. You only get to go to Valhalla if you die in battle.
Which suits me just fine. A quiet corner somewhere in Hela's realm sounds great.

Personally I have no desire to go to Valhalla. I have nothing against Odin, he's been a great help to me and my sister is very close to him.
And for the record, warriors back then were actually very intelligent. While they didn't "read" per say they were generally expected to be well versed in poetry and strategy games like chess. Odin is the god of war AND poetry. He is in an endless quest for wisdom to the point that he gave his eye to obtain it. I have the utmost respect for a true warrior. They know when to fight and when not to.
Hail Odin!!
And we are NOT pantheist. We are Polytheist and adamant ones at that.

Valhala would seem pretty cool. Robert Plant apparently went there once.

Heaven is where God is. He is the light of heaven, the joy of heaven. As you mature in your understanding of the Bible, you realize there is no material concept of heaven that will do it justice. The Bible talks about streets of gold as clear as crystal and walls made out of precious stones (see Revelation 21:18-21). All sorts of images immediately come to mind when we mention heaven. More than anything else, heaven is a spiritual condition where one spiritual being is in touch with another spiritual being, and there is total communication and fellowship.

Valhalla!
Or Freya's hall - my other patron deity.
Fight your battles and dare the odds, drink some mead and praise our gods
Plano - get some education. Not all Heathens/Asatru are racist skinheads. I'm a USMC veteran and I'm a lesbian. I know one respected Asatru man who is extremely dark-skinned (African-American)
