Proper position for the hands is 10 and 2 o'clock, if you vision the steering wheel as a clock face.

There are some who say now that 3 and 9 gives you more leverage to turn, but I have not seen any studies showing that the case.

Your hands should be either in the 9 O'clock and 3 O'clock position or the 10 O'clock and 2 O'clock position. These positions are known to be the safest hand positions while driving. Hand-over-hand is a two-handed technique where you cross your arms while turning the wheel.

Depends on the turn. Often you do hand over hand or just keep them in the same position.
Most teachers don't look at your hands, they watch the turn. So focus more on your driving!
