*Is Catholic*
I would suggest that viewing Jesus as "teacher" to be a lacking model of who the person of Jesus is. To see Jesus simply as teacher is to not understand him as Christ let alone Son of the Father.
In scripture, the application of "teacher" or rabbi to Christ comes very early on by the Jews and it is done so because they recognize his ability to exegete the Torah, but it is important to point out that at this juncture, the Jews do not recognize how it is that he exegetes or by what authority he exegetes the Torah.
As a Catholic we see Christ not only as the exegete or teacher of scripture, but we understand that he is in fact the meaning of scripture. Scripture itself is useful not because it has a good message about morals (for many peoples have good books like that) but because scripture points to Jesus as the Logos and the Son of the Father.
In fact, if we look at the scripture in total, we find that a Catholic is not supposed to live their loves through simply the Gospel verses, but rather the Catholic is to live their lives through Jesus. This relationship transcends the words on the pages of scripture so that simply following the words, as the Jews did, is not enough and eventually dead ends. Rather one must come to Jesus who is not simply exegete or teacher, but who is answer. That is why Catholics call Jesus the way the truth and the life; for he teaches, he is the answer, and he is what vivifies us. Jesus is he whom without there is no meaning or really any existence.
As for proof, that is long and complex, and it wont be found simply in the pages but is in the life that is lived which includes the words on the pages but cannot be reduced simply to the words on the page.

For starters, read one of the gospels. My favorite is the gospel of Luke.
Do you really want to know if the Bible is the word of God? Go to a gospel and follow this time-tested method for uncovering the mystery of the Word of God: "the child of God (that's me) takes the Word of God (the Scriptures) into the presence of God (prayer) and lets the Holy Spirit of God (the Author) make that Word come to life for me and, more importantly, in me."
I guarantee you God will speak to you through the pages of the Bible.
If you are not game enough to try this experiment and want proof based on scientific, empirical, and historical evidence please go to these links.

Finally, to learn about Catholic teachings and practices we have a seminar for people like you. It is called Roman Catholic Initiation for Adults (RCIA). Absolutely no obligation on your part. You can walk out anytime you wish. See your local parish for details.

Catholics are not Christians.
Catholicism teaches a false gospel of works that leads to eternal hell (Galatians 1).
