It depends on a few things. Are you an adult or child? Are they Muslim also? If the answer is no to both. I would wait til your 18 to proceed. If you are 18 and they are not Muslim. Then just express your reasons for wanting to wear hijab. Agree/express why you are old enough to decide this on your own. Possibly, if you are under 18 but already a teenager they may allow you to wear hijab. If you make it clear WHY you want to.If they understand the significance to you. I'm sure they will back you up. Good Luck!!!!

Salam Alaykum,
There are many forms of hijab. It does not have to be drastic a simple scarf will do in the meantime...women of all faiths cover their hair and it is not shocking to see young Muslim girls wearing them in the States. My doctor does. There are many sites you can shop online and get a beautiful hijab for about 12.00 at al Hannah.com. I wear mine for salat as well as in the Masjid. I am from the school of it's the Iman or faith you have in Islam but remember...the Hijab without being a Muslim is pointless. I don't always wear mine and extremists
spare me. I am not going to hell for that anymore than you for your sins and we are all not perfect. Humans don't judge me.
My Creator Allah SWT does so unless you are The One True Judge. Keep your dua's for your own sins.
Wasalaam

Peace be Upon you,
with all respect to your parents but they don't have the right to refuse or agree ... are you 12 years old? if you are you should obey them, if you aren't you shall discuss the matter with them and do it. it is you descision ... only yours
Not for Hijab Only but also for everything in life (if you are a mature do what you ever believe and don't forget to speak politly to them )
BTW, living in america is not a problem, i think they respect Muslims Teachings as i think (as long as there wheren't problems "and your behaviour reflects your culture")
Go On and speak with your parents as i said before
No matter What happen Allah will be with you ... In Shaa Allah

If it is part of your religion and culture they should be ok with it. If not, well, it may take some persuasion. And be prepared for taunts and ethnic slurs though since anti-Muslim sentiment is alive and well in the USA. But as one Muslim girl put it, you don't have to worry about having a bad hair day. Just put on the scarf and out you go!

peace sistah
living in america is no excuse fo not wearing a hijab.........
and your parents will certainly no be excuse as well...hijab has been required TO all the beliving women by ALLAH the al-mighty..
and plus we have been ordered to obey our parents at all times EXCEPT when they order u to do soemthing against ur religion, then we should NOT obey them..so my dearest sis, remember no one will enter your grave with u, nor is anyone going to help you on the day of judgement when u r being questioned abt why u didn't wear al hijab..so i say think before it's to late..and wear ur hijab..may allah tala'a increase you in iman and taqwa and patience. amen.

u just tell them, its ur choice 100% and u can wear it whenever u like regardless of what people think and ur parents i think would respect whatever choice u make. wearing a hijab is a beautiful thing and u should be glad to want to wear it.
Good Luck!!

Start by wearing modest dress. I don't mean you have to wear non-American clothes, just show your parents that you take your choice of clothing seriously. Talk to them occasionally about your opinions about how women dress and you want to dress. If you are in high school, they may be concerned that you will be ridiculed. I think you're wise to give yourself a long time frame to work in, and that you want your parents to approve. Good for you!
