as always, i'm not trying to mock atheism. if anything, this is just a fun thing to wonder about because almost every belief has a interesting ending, take for example Ragnarök of Nordic Mythology:

first off, it is not just a christain idea that the world will end in some fantastic way, that is why i posted the link to Ragnarök!

2ndly, this is all in FUN! use your imagination & come up with some great ending, not just "well, i guess global warming will end us" or some lame crap like that!

It will all depend on what sort of dice roll God makes when the DM ask's the question " Ok, the universe is about to explode, make a roll against your metaphysics skill to prevent this from happening"...

Imagine you're a T.V. set, and your playing Survivor Tahiti (or whatever location they're at now). As long as you're receiving power, you're active and aware. Now pull the plug. The end (of your life, anyway).

As for the universe, current theories are 1) The Big Crunch (where everything crunches back up on itself), 2) The Big Dissolve (not sure if this is the name), where the universe simply expands till every atom is so far apart that they can't hold onto one another, or 3) That the universe is actually between two "branes" (as in membranes) and will grow as they expand from one another, till they switch direction and do the same thing again (this is from the string theory set).

My belief is, it won't matter. At the center of every galaxy is a super-massive black hole. The more it gobbles, the bigger it becomes, and the more sucking power it generates (ie, gravity well). Long before any of these possibilities, all matter within a galaxy will be consumed, leaving empty space to it's own designs.

Why do people keep asking questions like that as though atheists are an organised group with beliefs? All that happens is that atheists don't believe in god. Some are religious/spiritual in other ways, some are scientifically knowledgeable and some are dim, there are all sorts of beliefs held by atheists.

I don't know what you mean by "everything" but my knowledge of the universe is limited so I don't know what will happen, although I do hear stuff of us all being swallowed by black holes and the like. About the Earth, aren't we going to get consumed by the sun in a few million years when it explodes into a red giant or whatever? Humans might well bomb ourselves out of existence first though.

Everything?

My ending: I will die.
The ending of humans: either we will leave a descendant species or we will go extinct.
The ending of the Earth: In 5 billion years as the sun becomes a red giant.
The ending of the universe: either expands endlessly, becoming cold and dark in about 100 trillion years, or if the expansion continues to accelerate, will tear the fabric of spacetime in about 100 trillion years.

everything begins with "e" and ends with a "g".

As to the universe, there are many theories, some more likely than others. Either the universe stops expanding and falls in on itself in a reverse of the Big Bang, or it keeps expanding, running out of energy and just fading out. Me, I prefer the first theory.

Everything meaning the entire universe or just the earth? The universe will eventually exhaust the entire amount of energy it possesses and become 'frozen'. The earth will end by some type of astronomical event, i.e. sun going super nova, galaxy collision, extremely large meteor.

Atheists aren't a religion. We don't have a dogma. A common theory. It's like asking all brown eyed people how the world will end.

I think it will end with a whimper. Not a bang. Easter Island on a global scale.

Everything? I have a theory about how Humanity will end, but I don't know enough about the universe to really know how the universe will end. I think Humanity will wipe itself out with some sort of weapons, but I don't know where or when.

Heat death. The Universe will probably end up completely running out of thermodynamic free energy to sustain motion or life, having reached maximum entropy.

Current cosmological theory says that the universe will keep expanding forever and everything will get really cold.

At the moment I think that is the best concept.
