I have taken vicodin too and other more powerful narcotics for pain. It might just be the vicodin may be wearing off as vicodin does not have a very long acting effect. For a longer effect of pain control like to get through the night for sleeping for instance, I now take MScontin which is morphine. It is wonderful stuff and not only gets me thought the night to sleep better but a twice a day dosage it has 12 hour coverage.

Depending on why you are taking pain meds and to the degree you need pain control you might ask for a longer acting narcotic. For me that is controlled release morphine and I have vicodin for break through pain. Good luck.

Normally, you take a vicodin every 4-6 hours or so. If you are taking it for actual pain, than you almost never become addicted to it. You just might need a longer acting narcotic if the pain is coming back before the next scheduled dose.
