There are many pitfalls on the path of gaining self-knowledge. It doesn't matter which way or technqiue one uses so much in regards to the pitfalls one encounters. The pitfalls one encounters are in the mind itself, from listening to what one's mind is telling and thinking it is truth. The mind is part of you and will be brought into the equation no matter the practise one does.

Part of all spiritual seeker's path is going into this crazy point, and not knowing what is reality and what is not. What I'm saying is don't blame it on the practise, don't blame it on the outside thing and feel like a victim, but rather look within, to see where these crazy thoughts are coming from. Perhaps it's time to go back to simple meditation for a while.

There are some fundamentalist religions that have some problems with it. Apparently yoga, when practiced in its highest, most dedicated form, seeks divine union with a non christian god. For me, it is all about the physical benefits. Perhaps the very weak of faith could be seduced to the dark side? I even saw a "christian yoga" web site where a woman would lead a yoga class all the while praising Jesus. VERY weird. I think you get out of it what you put into it. If all you want is to be relaxed and flexible, and you don't go into it looking for some other god, you are fine.

There are probably less than a handful yet alive in this world that are masters in this ancient art.
A person should be very, very cautious.
Throughout history many have succumb to improper practices.
There are much better forms of realization, than this dangerous practice.

I'm sure it's happened. I'm looking for a teacher myself, and even then I think I'll do a thorough background check, like some would do for a plastic surgeon. Get the wrong one of those and you look like Lion-O or Michael Jackson.
