You are not obligated to give anyone a gift just because they gave you one. That is not what gift giving is about. Just graciously thank her for thinking of you, and leave it at that. my mother in law did the same thing early on in our relationship, and I just told her that I was so surprised that she did something so kind, and that she thought about me enough to give me a gift. I didn't buy her a gift in return, but a very nice thank you note--the old fashioned hand written kind, makes all the difference!

If his mom is getting you a present it's because she thinks you are good for her son...so that's a good thing. If you want to get her something small, chocolates, an ornament for the tree or a picture frame, that would be nice...but don't feel obligated.

Go get each of them a fancy ornament for their tree... it will be treasured, and yet will not be too expensive or too personal.
Chances are, they got you something simple like fancy-packaged bath salts.
