I'm smart enough not to run 8 miles. Gatorade is a thirst quencher that is designed to replace electrolytes lost in perspiration; but water is good too for most healthy people. Soda is never a good choice for thirst quenching. Although the sugar may replace energy, it's not a slow acting carb. Also, most sodas contain both chemicals and sodium. If you're a runner serious about your health, you won't drink soda at all.

Gatorade obviously... That way you catch all the minerals you lost by running up again, and you keep your energy.
