I think maybe you mean a Geriatrician? The word Gerontology: means the study of the aging. A geriatrician is a doctor whom is board certified in geriatrics, specializing in the care of elderly people. Docotors have to go to college for approximately eight years!! I would suggest you check with your school guidance counselor to see about a CNA class you could take. CNA's (ceritified nurse's aides) work in nursing homes, caring for the elderly, and hospitals. They help feed the patients, take them to the bathroom, get dressed, etc. In SOME places the CNA's take blood pressures and pulses and do blood sugar checks. This would give you a good idea if you liked health care, before you put alot of money into college. In my state, Iowa, CNA's make anywhere from $7-10 per hour. The CNA classes in this state range from a 75 hour course to a 6 month course. If you started as a CNA and later decided to go to college for nursing you would already be familiar with the "basics". Nursing schools in my state range from 1 year for a LPN (Licensed Practical Nurse) to 2-4 years for a RN (Registered Nurse). LPN's make $10-18 per hour and RN's make $16-40 per hour. (That's in this state & rumor has it we are the lowest paid state for nurses!!) I am a RN, I have been a nurse for 7 years and I did just what I have suggested you do. I took a 75 hour CNA course and began working in a nursing home as a CNA when I was 15. After highschool I started nursing school and worked my way up the ladder. The past experience made nursing school that much easier. I wish you luck and hope this helped.

I did that too while I was working on my Nursing License. To feed, bathe, and do all the "basic activities of daily living" you would really only need your CNA (Certified Nursing Assistant). They get paid anywhere from $7-$13 and the training can sometimes be done in as little as 3 months. To be a nurse you would need either your LPN (Licensed Practical Nurse) or RN (Registered Nurse) those licenses take more time (18 mos-4years) depending on what kind of degree you want...BUT they make anywhere from $15-$45/hour. To be a geotrician it sounds like your looking more for a doctrite degree in applied science and that can take up to 8 years. But don't give up it's totally worth it. You could make $100,000+ a year!
