Can you describe me the differences between the different quarters in Istanbul ?
Istanbul city ( downtown ) is also Istanbul departement ( state, province or whatever the administrative name) ?
Fenerbache and Galatasaray are quarters or municipaties?
Where are the best quarters to visit and to stay?
Where are the dangerous quarters to avoid going to?

Is February a good period for holidays in Istanbul ?
How much is a night in a average hotel in a good quarter ( near by stores, restaurants ,monuments ,sea ,etc...)

Do you know a website where I can see a map with all the must-go/must-see things?

Istanbul is a huge city comprised of many different areas, too many to list or describe.
You specifically mention Galatasaray and Fenerbahçe - on their own they mean football - two of the most important football teams in Turkey. Fenerbahçe is on the Asian side, Galatasaray ir European. They are very different!

As a tourist it makes sense to stay on the European side - SultanAhmet or Beyoğlu.
February is a fairly crap month to visit - probably cold and wet! On the other hand, Istanbul is used to bad weather and there's plenty to do indoors. Enjoy!!

Hi, I have to agree with the posters above... Istanbul is a HUGE city with more "quarters" than anyone could describe on Yahoo! Answers.

Generally, tourists come to Istanbul and visit Sultanahmet, which is the area of the city with major historical sites such as the Aya Sofia, Blue Mosque, Topkapi Palace, and the Grand Bazaar. The other area that tourists tend to visit is the Taksim area, which is known as the heart of Istanbul, as it is where everyone tends to go to spend their free time and find good nightlife.

Hotels in Sultanahmet probably won't be too expensive in February as it is off-season, but you should check around on prices. It can be very cold at that time, but it's lovely to visit any time of the year, just bring a warm coat!

well I honestly Istanbul is not a place for everybody. Thats where you will see the most beautiful and ugliest places of all europe at the same time. most colorful place, kinda sensual or romantic.. but I assure you, you will definitely be so surprised, and would want to go again! I'm going to Istanbul on this friday, and I'm little bit exited :)
