depends on your application
but if your asking which is a better camera manufacturer, it would be Cannon. Cannon has tons of Patents on imaging, camera, printing etc. more than Kodak has.
Kodak used to be a great camera manufacturer, but they focused on films and film development, not on digital imaging. Kodak missed the market and is just catching up for now. Kodak would need to leapfrog in digital imaging technology to become as good as Cannon in that segment.
if you are looking at camera's specially DSLRs go get Cannon, prosumer camera would be the 400D while pro's would be the 40D and more pricey Mark II.

For sure go with a "Cannon", the absolute best and will far out perform "Kodak". (Kodax, has failed to keep up with technology in my own opinion).
