By CQ duty, I mean, overlooking everything the way drill sergeants on CQ duty do in BCT.

Not sure about today, but when I retired as an Operations Sergeant in an AIT company at Ft Gordon, the students pulled what we called fire watch. 2 hour shifts from 6 pm until 6 am The Cadre pulled CQ.

Back in Dino days you had to be an E5 or E6 to be the CQ. Runners were E4 and below. In AIT students pulled "runner" or "hall watch" "armed guard duty" and "unarmed guard duty". Nothing like walking round and round a Motor Pool with axe handles or an unloaded weapon.

Real armed guards are usually Infantry with all the hardware required. It's just SD in school.

Yes. We had two-hour shifts during the training week, and 12-hour shifts on the weekends. We found that we like the 2-hour shifts better because we only had to pull one - maybe two - shifts per week. The 12-hour shifts were not that bad either. All we did was maintain the barracks, have people sign in and out as they went about their business, answer the phone, and watch movies/listen to music.

I hung pictures and redecorated it, but I don't recall doing CQ duty. It's been so long ago. I did do guard duty in the dorm.
