the diesel will get better mileage and have more power and more efficient to operate than the hemi gas engine will be,and its a lot more reliable than the gas engine will be the best mileage you,ll get on the hemi will be around 18 on the highway if your lucky, the diesel will get close to twenty ,and its more consistent on mileage also, and will out last the hemi engine, ask anyone who owns a diesel engine and they will tell you the same thing, good luck.

Go Diesel! You will not look back.

Pros of a Diesel:
1) You will get better mileage with the CTD over the MDS Hemi.
2) Diesel will tow or haul more weight
3) Easy to add performance upgrades that will blow the doors off a Hemi while still getting better fuel economy!
4) You will get better re-sale on a CTD than a Hemi
5) Motor life of a cummins will last 500,000 miles or longer!

Con's of a Diesel

1) Maintenance is a little more (oil changes)
2) If parts break more expensive than a Gasser.
3) Initial Expense to purchase over a Gasser

Unless you are going to pull a big trailer a lot of times, I wouldn't recommend a diesel. They are built for tough jobs. And if you have any problems with them, they can get very expensive in a hurry. They do get better mileage than the Hemi but have you noticed how much more diesel costs than regular gas? Any where from 30 cents to 40 cents per galon! There goes the advantage. Just to change oil and filter will cost you up to three times as much on the diesel. If you want basic transportation in a Dodge truck, My pick would be the Hemi.

The Dodge, they can put out a lot of torque for all your towing needs. Ford does not have the 7.3 Powerstroke anymore, even when they did the 5.9 Dodge Cummins was putting out much more HP then the 7.3 Powerstroke was at the stock specs. As for Ford, since they did away with the 7.3 Powerstroke and went to that 6.0 diesel, they have been having nothing but problems with them. I know a couple of people that have them and they are ready to get rid of them because of all the headaches they have been having with this new engine. They are not alone, a lot of the newer Ford Ambulances also have this new 6.0L diesel and there are many unhappy people that have these too that I know of and are ready to look at something else to replace them with.

Both are good trucks...the diesel wins hands down in mileage , power, and longevity...but usually commands a hefty premium over the gas engine version..

If you're thinking about towing anything the Cummins is the way to go.
