Prozac has been proven to be a problem for teens and young adults especially. Ironically, it causes depression, what it is designed to take away.
Bottom line, this is proof that we are over prescribing these meds, are not taking care with what we put into our bodies (no matter what some quack tells us) and need to wise up.
Drug whore doctors get perks from prescribing these antidepressants, no doctor that does not have a degree in psychology should be prescribing them anyway. It is a national tragedy and won't change, big pharma business rules government.

you are focusing on the fact that people who do this are on this medication, rather than the fact that if they are on this medication, they obviously have underlying issues. It is not caused by the medication they are on, but by their other mental health issues. And medication is not effective the same on every person, so its not always 100%.
Prozac is an SSRI (selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor, which increases serotonin, which makes you feel good, not murderous) and in young children and teens it can cause suicidal impulses in the first 6 weeks. It can cause an increase in energy without a decrease in negative thoughts, which provides the patient with the energy to act on negative impulses, which is why children on this drug are extremely closely monitored for the first 2 months.
It is very ignorant of you to say that prozac causes people to commit suicide and to kill other people. It is not the drug, but underlying mental conditions, and these may be the people ot just doesnt work on. Without prozac, there may have been many more of these.

I have no idea where you got that Idea, Prove it before you make statements you can't back up. All drugs have side affects and all drugs can cause serious problems. But these drugs help a Hell of a lot more people than they hurt. Would you tell someone who had cancer not to take chemo even if that was the only hope that they could live a stable life?????? Of course you wouldn't do you know what kind of side effects there are to chemo???? I do I've had it twice already and will have to have it a least one more time in my life. I also know people who were close to suicidal before they were but on medications for their depression, You tell me that you want someone who's schizophrenic not taking medication because of the side affects???? You talk to someone who using the medication correctly and who's taking it on time and with the right dose and ask them whether they would rather be on or off them????? You ask a mother who was so depressed after having her child that she couldn't interact with it. You're only talking about the few who made the headlines what about the hundreds who were helped by them??? Who were able to reconnect to their families talk to the children who have their parents back and paying attention to them. Talk to the wife's and husbands who have spouses engaged in the marriage and family again. Yes there are cases of the extreme but that's what they are the extreme. You're taking the extreme and making it the norm when it's far from that.. You're doing a true disservice to the people who need the medications to be able to have a stable life.

These "awful" drugs have saved more lives than you can ever imagine. I hope you get hit by this horrible disease and have to see how much pain it is to not have medication controlling it. Prozac is supposed to be the best antidepressant out there but some people have to try different drugs to see which is better for them. Maybe these people on Prozac weren't given the right dosage or medicine to stabilize there current state. Think about the people who actually need the medication.

Discipline startes in the home- politics or not. I grew up around guns, loaded guns etc but because of my parents/ grandparents teachings I thought twice about touching one without consent. You show me a kid that takes a gun to school to settle a score and I'll show you a corrupted home. By corrupted I mean that somewhere that kid missed something that the parents failed to instill into their brain. It could've been anything but SOMETHING was missed. I know somebody is going to say there are exceptions to the rule- and to them I say....BULL, maybe- but still BULL. You go back in time and take a looksee. It's not up to the police or the government to police our children. It is the governments responsibility to turn control of our children back over to the parents in the home- TOTAL CONTROL, THEN hold the parents liable. I know that my child wont ever do things such as whats happend- Guaranteed, Government control or not, it starts in the home. And yes the media hypes it up too much- I have never agreed with turning the media loose like they have been allowed to run lately. When people see 9-11 coverage or shootings, or for that matter- military operations, does the government or the media realize that people with criminal intent on their minds see it also? Wow, lets just give them the keys to the city instead......

I'm not sure your basic premise is valid. Can you cite a reliable reference for your conclusion that the anti-depressant drugs were connected to these horrible events? Do you even know for sure that all of these events were perpetrated by people on medication?
Regardless, these are medications that HELP millions of people. You can't blame the drug for someone's irrational or murderous behavior. These were people who were already troubled BEFORE they started taking medication (if they were actually taking any). So your conclusion that there's a cause-effect relationship may not be valid.
Every individual is responsible for his or her own actions. It's not appropriate to make excuses based on some medication they're taking. "The devil made me do it" was a funny joke in the 60's but it's not accurate in this case.

The problem is these psychotropic drugs only treat symptoms, they cure nothing! They have to be combined with other treatment to be effective. Trouble is, there's good treatment, and bad treatment. Sometimes, when these people blow up, they take out everyone around them. Unfortunately, there's no way to predict what might happen beforehand. What are we going to do, lock up all the crazy people? We'd have half the population in jail, and the other half guarding them!

People whom take those medication are extremely worse with out them for instance my father is bipolar and with when he does not take his medication he goes crazy right now he his in jail because he tried to murder a man over money.
The thing is they stop taking it because they think they dont need it no more. You can not just stop all together you have to slowly wing yourself off of them otherwise some people tend to go crazy. You should only stop them when the doctor okays it.
