Please visit this site to learn about working with shy and fearful dogs.

www.fearfuldogs.com

It's important not to overwhelm this dog, you can make the situation worse by 'flooding' a scared dog. Start by just tossing it food or hand feeding it and not handling it too much. If you want you can pet its chest, pets on the head or back can be threatening to some dogs. It would be good to be sitting or lying on the floor.

You should also find a puppy class and see if you can bring the dog in to socialize with other pups. It's good to find incompatible behaviors to use with your dog to help him feel better with people. But really, check out the website, there's lots of info to help you out, that's what it was designed for.

Alright, now people spew puppy mills, back yard breeders like a broken record! GSD's are known for this. I have a female who came from a very good breeder, socialized etc etc. Basically the best you can get with regular inspections on their kennel by the AKC. When we first brought her home she was much the same. Very reserved and shy, even to the point of biting me once the second day we had her. She is the best girl we could hope for now though, with our small children and any small/large animals. Keep in mind, if you want a dog you can have in large group outings, SOCIALIZE her like crazy. They are a breed that gets very territorial over their family. If left at home, or kept at a distance from people on outings, she will be hard to bring to large events, like fairs etc. We now breed, and have 10 beautiful puppies we are raising right now, so if you have ANY more questions or concerns feel free to e-mail me anytime. You'll learn on here you'll get lectured more then get answers to your questions!

She may not have been socialized properly as a puppy. I would just give her a little bit of time and lots of extra love and attention!

Good Luck, Merry Christmas!

Your puppy might be shy from whoever was selling him. What I would do is start slow. Give him treats and try to earn his trust back, talk to him. Then once you've earned his trust start teaching him tricks and teaching him games like frisbee and fetch. He'll be your best friend in no time.

you need to spend more time with your pet and get him used to adults and children so you do not have any more problems socialising with you or your family don't forget she still needs to be friendly with other animals as well fo proper socialising training speak to a trainer or a behaviourist
