Yes, suicide is very selfish. HOWEVER the person that does it is not thinking about anyone else, so enmeshed in their own pain they are.
It is very difficult for the survivors. The loved one is dead, they don't have to live with the agony that the surviving family members and friends have to live with, that's what makes it selfish.
Forgiving people that take their own life is often a life-long process.
I don't know if I'm an Atheist or a very suspicious agnostic. I am very spiritual, but I also live in a secular world, so I couldn't tell you what I am.
I do know that my spiritual teachings say that we are here to learn lessons and if we suicide out, when we come back we still have to face the same lessons, probably worse because we left so much pain and misery in our wake.
Peace.

Only about 1% of the time. The rest of the time I would say no, it's not selfish. It's about mental illness. I like the word used above: it's tragic. There are cases where someone doesn't want to deal with their mistakes (I have an uncle who attempted suicide because he didn't want to declare bankruptcy) but the majority of the time, I think it's a depression issue, no a selfish issue.

It's very interesting that the atheists among us don't consider it selfish but the Christians do! I think that says a lot about some people who don't live in the real world! People who commit suicide are usually suffering so badly that they can't face life anymore. They deserve sympathy, not condemnation. Wake up to reality, children! I am an Atheist.

Well it depends. I know people who really were at the end of their rope and their mind wasn't working properly when they jumped into a river or however else they took their life. They are still entitled to a Christian burial. People who just take their lives to get back at someone else - then yes these people are being selfish. I am Catholic/Christian.

some say the church you go to does not make you that religion
I attend various UU churches, full of various faiths
I view suicide as a choice, I am also pro choice
I value life in all things, I am pro life
I think suicide is not cut and dry, some cases can be considered selfish
some can be considered understanding as no other option for dignity or further existence
if we are ready to die, but not willing to take own life, sometimes we ask others to help u
after all, the quality of fast food or crap in supermarkets these days is slow suicide and death anyways....why not choose your own ending on your own terms?

No, I think suicide is tragic. If I said suicide was selfish, I would be claiming that I have some right to that person's life. I don't. Each person's life is their own, and its their responsibility to make the best of it. Its unfortunate when life becomes unbearable and they can't get the help needed to overcome it.
I'm Wiccan.

Yes, I find it to be selfish. I am a Christian.
I have been there too and I still believe it is selfish because of this...when I was there I was thinking of no one but myself. It is this sense of self, I believe, that allows someone to become suicidal in the first place. When we care more for others than we do for ourselves, suicide is rarely an issue.

Technically yes, but mental illness makes one "selfish" in that they simply can't see beyond their own pain. Anyone who preaches about "the easy way out" or how stupid it is, has never almost bled out because they are so desperate to stop the pain and chaos in thier own head they know no other way.

No. If by depression, then they do not usually intend to hurt others only end their own suffering. If by intent due to terminal illness it is more of a selfish act by people NOT of thier religion to prevent suffering. To force one to suffer for years due to illness with no hope of recovery, that is selfish.

Atheist.
It can be considered selfish, but a lot of it has to do with how bad you are suffering. I can't judge a person who lives in agony wanting to die.
I don't agree with it's done by people who are mentally unhealthy. It's nice to catagorize people when you really don't understand their situation.
