I heard media speculation that the USA DoD MAYBE announcing the deployment of a further 7000 military personnel to AFGHANISTAN next year - 2008?

I've searched online, and haven't been able to find any links supporting this speculation.

I'll be honest here, because I've become very cynical about such speculation and would love to be proven wrong after USA withdrew 77% of thier troops from AFGHANISTAN in 2003 leaving thier NATO allies sort out the chaos they left behind in the REAL SOURCE of this conflict to go into Iraq.

I tend NOT to make statements I cannot back up with FACTS Sir. Unfortunately, the new Vista I am using at the present doesn't seem to let me open and check my saved research saved on dvds. Once I can sort that irritation out, I will indeed add the link to this question.

I did say that this 77% withdrawal of USA troops took place in 2003 when the were redeployed into Iraq, leaving NATO forces and the remaining US troops to deal with the resulting chaos left behind in AFGHANISTAN.

The 53rd Brigade Combat Team (National Guard from Florida) and the 48th Brigade Combat Team (National Guard from Georgia) have been notified of their deployment to Afghanistan next year. Use the link below and click on "news releases". That will take you to the news release of December 3rd.

Sorry can't confirm any additional troops to Afghanistan.

But if you were being honest you would explain how 15,000 (present US strength in Afghanistan) is only 33% of 22,000 which is the number of US troops that i believe we had there.

If you remember right there were quite a few allies who went into afghanistan with us.

I heard John Kerry yesterday saying he wanted 5000 more US Troops deployed to Afghanistan and for the other NATO members to pony up more as well.

Perhaps that's were it started.

A big push is likely in Afghanistan in the spring offencive of 2008.

Right now there's a major fire-fight going on somewhere south. [Helmund?]

I dont know about further deployment to Afghanistan. But you talk like NATO is some organization that has nothing to do with the US when the the NATO troops are largely USA people.
