rather than picking one based on biased opinions from people who own one of the two consoles, take this into your own hands, read reviews for each, and choose based on the pricing range that you can handle.

PS3 is a console that is used more without being online and playing with or against others. So if you are a big fan of the playstation 2 games like the final fantasy series or kingdom hearts, or that bunch, go out and buy yourself a PS3. However, I would not recommend getting a PS3 and getting the online play package, because in my opinion, the XBOX 360 is set up better for online play.

The XBOX 360 is known for its cooperative playing games like halo and gears of war ( a favorite ) and will not be worth its investment unless you also purchase the internet package. The XBOX 360 games, I would say, are about 300% more fun when played online with friends and strangers.

I have neither console, but have played both a lot. I would base your choice almost entirely on your source of income. If you have no occupation I would go with the PS3, but if you are willing to pay monthly and a bit more up front in some cases, you should get the 360.

Take the money into thought, so you dont end up screwed out of your cash and not having fun!

The 360 has a better base of games out right now. I think the PS3 should have a good amount of legit games by the time summer comes around. You're just going to have to decide whether you want the PS3 or the 360. Obviously the 360 doesn't have the greatest track record (3 Red Lights). Both have their pros and cons.

PS3! So far only about 1/3 of the abilities of the PS3 have been used. This includes graphics. It's much cheaper. Think about it, online is free(versus $70 a year on 360), and you can watch Blu-Ray movies(Way better than HD-DVD in the first place) right out of the box. With the 360 you have to buy that HD-DVD thing separate for about $180. Have some fun, save your time(and money), and get a PS3! Oh yeah, and you can switch the hard drive to a bigger one!

Xbox 360. It has more games, not as big as the PS3, Xbox Live is great, lot of memory storage. PS3 has a lot of growing to do. It also plays songs and you can put pictures on it. The 360's controller has a better rumble feature than the PS3's also. And 13/15 gaming experts and game websites show that the Xbox 360's graphics are better, even on a standard definition TV. Online gaming isn't very good on the PS3 either, and Xbox Live has more features than the PS3.

I am a strong supporter of sony and the PS2, and I never really liked the Xbox at sll, so know that my opinion is based on fact, and not any sort of bias.

The best decision is to go with the Xbox 360. Not only are most games these days released multi-platform, but Sony has lost many of its Playstation-only developers. Sony has also stooped to cheap, unfair marketing strategies, such as purposefully releasing consoles with built in performance issues, simply so they can repair them later and force its customers to continually purchase new versions of the system.

360's online service, reliable and performance is very respectable, and the game selection is vastly improved since the original Xbox. Xbox's ability to download demos, games, and preview videos is also worth noting. The PS3 often feels like a ripoff and the gimmicky, often pointless repeated updates is a malady that Sony really needs to find a cure for. There's a chance blu-ray may not even become as mainstream as the DVD, but in case you want a blue-ray player, the PS3 would be the way to go. Otherwise, 360 is the way to go for a good console.

Online gaming is free for the PS3 and Xbox Live is £40 per year in UK/ $50 per year in America, so over 5 years that's £200/$250 saved compared to Xbox live. If you like online play there's Resistance, Motorstorm and Warhawk. And Unreal Tournament 3, Haze and Metal Gear Online are coming out. Also the Playstation Network has Little Big Planet and Home coming to it. The Playstation Store has some great things on it like classic Playstation games, as well as Wipeout HD, Calling All Cars and Everyday Shooter.

Blu-ray discs mean that more can be stored on PS3 games allowing them to be bigger. An Xbox DVD holds about 8GB but a single layer Blu-ray disc holds 25GB and a dual layer holds 50GB yet a 360 game costs the same as a PS3 game. Grand Theft Auto 4 may have to be put on multiple discs for the 360 because they're smaller and you might not like having to get up to change the disc. One level on Killzone 2 takes up 2GB which shows the scale of PS3 games. The PS3 is a very cheap Blu-ray player while you have to buy a £120/$200 add-on to play HD-DVD movies on the 360.

The PS3 has been out a year less than the 360 and it's graphics are already equalling or bettering those on the 360. As the developers become better at developing games for the PS3 the gap will only widen. As far as games go most of the better games for the Xbox are either multi-platform or going to come out for the PC at some point like Gears of War and Halo 1 & 2 already have.

The 360 is backwards compatible with about 300 Xbox games but if you get a backwards compatible PS3 then there are thousands of PS1 and PS2 games you can play.

Here's a list of what I think are or will be the best games for the PS3:

Well right now there's Resistance, Ninja Gaiden Sigma, Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, Ratchet and Clank, Virtua Fighter 5, Heavenly Sword, Stranglehold, Assassin's Creed, Virtua Tennis 3, Folklore, Uncharted, Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter 2, Guitar Hero 3, Singstar and Call of Duty 4.

Killzone 2, Haze, MGS4, Final Fantasy XIII, Gran Turismo 5, Afrika, Motorstorm 2, Wipeout PS3, Yakuza 3, LittleBigPlanet, Infamous, White Knight Chronicles, Disgaea 3, The Getaway 3, Heavy Rain, SOCOM: Confrontation, Wardevil, LA Noire, Tekken 6 and God of War 3 will all be coming out as PS3 exclusives. Also the maker of Ico and Shadow of the Colossus is making his next game exclusively on PS3.

As well as this there are ones that are multi-platform like Devil May Cry 4, Lost Planet, Resident Evil 5, The Orange Box, Eternal Sonata, Soul Calibur 4 and Rock Band. Also a new Jak and Daxter game and Bioshock are rumoured to be coming out on the PS3. So in my opinion the PS3 has a much stronger and more varied lineup then the 360.

The Xbox is cheaper (but I don't think it is in the long run) and Xbox live is probably better (but I don't think the difference is worth the cost). The original Xbox only had a lifespan of 4 years and with the 360's problems it may only last another 2-3. The PS2 had a lifespan of 6 years and the PS3 is planned to last 7-10 years. All PS3 controllers are rechargeable, you just connect them to the USB port to charge, but you have to buy a rechargeable battery pack if you don't want to use AA batteries for the 360 pad.

The PS3 has much better hardware than the Xbox which has massive 30% failure rate. The PS3's failure rate is 0.2%. 360's are known to scratch discs if they're moved while on, this would be practically impossible to happen on the PS3 anyway because blu-ray discs are hard-coated.

The PS3 is the most value for money as all models have a hard drive and Wi-fi built in but for the 360 you have to pay more in some way or another for these features. Also to play DVDs you have to buy a DVD remote for the 360 but you can just use the sixaxis if you want to play DVDs on the PS3. Only the PS3's games are all region free so you can import games from other countries before they come out or get an obscure Japanese game if you want. Also the PS3 plays full 1080p hi-definition whereas the Xbox just upscales the image.

You should get the console that has the games that you want but I think the PS3 is better because of it's games, features and reliability.

You should get a PS3 instead of an Xbox 360.

That question is very hard to answer. You will get 1 million opinions from both camps.
I choose the PS3 because it plays Blu-Ray movies. That's not to take away from the popularity of the 360, but your going to have to choose yourself. See which system your friends have or video stores in your area. That way you can trade or rent games.

Xbox 360 has only First Person Shooters.. THAT'S ALL THEIR GOOD FOR.

I like the Ps3 for a couple of reasons:
Sony actually listens to their consumers..When the Ps3 came out we grumbled it had no Rumble. Now in spring 2008 DUALSHOCK 3, is coming with Rumble and Sixaxis.

Does Microsoft listen to customers? No... Since their Xbox 360 failures 5% of the time (1 out of 20) all they did was extend the warranty to three years...WOW...

Everyone I know is on their second Xbox 360 cause the first one broke.

Xbox 360 hardware woes
Microsoft really hit it out of the park when it came to the Xbox 360's software—consider the slick Dashboard, the persistent Achievements and Gamertags, and the top-notch Xbox Video Marketplace. But the actuall 360 hardware is a disaster: chronically glitchy, prone to overheating, and all too susceptible to the "Red Ring of Death," which signals a critical hardware failure. Indeed, I'm already on my second Xbox 360 in barely a year, and just about every 360 owner I know has had to send their console back to Redmond for repair. In June, Microsoft finally did the right thing and owned up to the shoddy state of its hardware, extending the Xbox 360's warranty to a full three years and taking a $1 billion charge in the process.

Thats hilarious now lets get down to the comparison.

People don't understand..prices JUST THINK
I'm going buy their highest price models..
Playstation 3 is $599 for an 80gig...OK EXPENSIVE WE KNOW
Xbox 360 is $449 for a Elite...

By the year 2009, excluding games, and including Internet fees you would have paid..$600 dollars for your Xbox 360 to use all it features...

To me it's the same price, you can see it anyway you want but it is.

Ah there is a lot of good and bad between both of them. If you are a movie lover and do not want to dish out $200-400 on a HD DVD Player which you will probably need by 2009, then Ps3 is the way to go because the DVD player that's built in it is incredible and next gen. If games are what you want and you want to play online constantly and compete with others all over the world, I would say the Ps3 because it's 100% free online and Xbox 360 is $50 a year for online so you're pretty much paying the difference between the price in about 3 years.

All right lets get down to opinions. When it comes down to technology, I leave it the Asians and not Americans. Windows Vista is a disaster and proves Microsoft makes a lot of mistakes.

Both consoles are buggy because they were rush to the shelves but Xbox 360 failure rate is higher than Ps3. Xbox 360 currently has this thing called 'red ring of death' which means your gaming system is finished unless you send it to Microsoft and they fix it.

If you send it to Microsoft, you have to wait about a month and half to get it back and it could get stolen in the mail. A lot of people aren't trusthworthy.

One good thing I can say about Microsoft is that they are very good at persuading. They pay companies a lot of money to keep games exclusive to their system, games like Gears of War, Bioshock, and Halo. These games make people buy their system but in the long run Sony has good credibility.

Xbox 360 is up in sales but Sony has always been reliable in the years to come. The games and equipment they will dish out in unmatched and Xbox 360 cannot compete.

I can name great upcoming games exclusive for the Ps3 and I can name great games exclusive for the Xbox.

Is the Ps3 worth the money...YES..it is it's worth every penny and its now $400 dollars for a 40 gigabyte version, better than it was a year ago. Although Xbox 360 is cheap in 3 years you will pay more than you did for the Ps3 minus the games.

The new 40gig version is less buggy than the 360 and probably won't have any problems.

When Playstation 2 came out I remember sitting around months on end waiting for a good games then Sony came rushing to shelves with great stuff.

Metal Gear Solid 2 & 3
God of War
Gradius
Manhunt
Devil May Cry series
Grand Theft Auto series

Everytime I finished a game another one came out..

It always been like this, Developers had 2 years to dish out stuff for Xbox 360 and learn it's components. Of course Xbox 360 is going to be everyone favorite now.

But don't count Sony out...they've always pulled the rabbit out the hat. By December of 2008, Ps3 will conquer all once more.

People forgot that Xbox 360 had a FULL YEAR but the Ps3 is still right behind them. A full year so of course Xbox 360 games will be better, of course there is more people online, and of course people will discredit the Ps3.

Sony has never failed when it comes to games. When the Playstation came out (Sony's first system), it blew Nintendo and Dreamcast sales out the water. It took Xbox 2 systems to catch up and get it right and they still haven't.

The Xbox 360 have a 5% failure rate.. That is 1 out of 20. If condoms had a %5 failure rate, the U.S. population would surpass China.

People say Xbox 360 has a mix array of games but their best games top 3 is a First Person Shooter..Thats not a mix array people..

If you're going buy the system on the base of games.. pick up a GameInformer magazine from a Supermarket or game store and just see what games you like. Good luck.
