I once heard an argument for the afterlife based on justice. The idea was that the universe was just, and since not everybody received justice on Earth, there must be some afterlife where they do.

Well, I'd say a question of justice. If there is just this one life, then there's no justice in the fact that some good people suffer and some bad people prosper. I'm leaning toward belief in reincarnation, because I want to come back as one of those lean, graceful, intelligent, beautiful young women who can really manifest the goddess within, and see what that's like.
"Well, I'm not scared of dying
And I don't really care
If it's peace you find in dying
Well then let the time be near.
* * *
I could swear there ain't no heaven
And I pray there ain't no hell,
But I'll never know by livin',
Only my dying will tell.
And when I die
And when I'm dead, dead and gone
They'll be one child born
In the world to carry on."

Huh?
What does morality have to do with something that is outside the sphere of humanity?
I can think of plenty of reasons why belief in life after death is immoral...
Telling children that they will go to hell if they do not follow the same belief as you is child abuse
Believing that earth is only an ephemeral stop on the path to eternal happiness negates the one life we are certain exists.
People should be held accountable for their actions when they're alive, not when they are dead.

Pascal's Wager again?
Christians sometimes proffer Pascal’s Wager (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pascal%27s_wager ) suggesting to non-believers that they should accept Jesus (John 3:16) as some sort of insurance policy against hell, just in case it turns out god really exists. The fallacy with this line of reasoning is that faith in god for some reward or to avoid punishment is not faith at all. It is a selfish act to receive something in return for a belief. The point of religious belief so that one becomes a better person, not to receive a reward or please a spiritual being.

Reincarnation of the continuous type, keeps one in the reality of this universe, and does not allow for escapism. It is moral because it is fair to people, whose lives have been shortened by natural disasters, and other unlucky occurrences. Having to deal with the struggle of life, and the serious problems of this world becomes important, when if you don't, the likelihood of you eventually paying the consequences for your neglect in a future life is high. Those who neglect to get good at handling this world in a positive and helpful manner, will eventually pay for their lack of skill in this reality, if this is the only reality they will be reborn in.

No. People think there 'ought' to be some kind of ultimate justice for bad people, and reward for good people, but that's just wishful thinking.
