I was just wondering if the christians who are boycotting and calling this film an insult to christianity also thought that some muslims were grossly over-reacting by being offended to the teddy bear named Mohammed?
Double standards anybody?

Nice bit of a comparison there, I have to say. Apparently, it is only okay to overreact about things if Christians are doing it. Of course, at least no one is calling for Pullman's death or anything...but it still sickens me that people feel obliged to tell everyone that you can't see something because it was made by an atheist....or because it doesn't perfectly match up to your world-view...The whole thing is just sickening.

Because the children don't know any better, that's why. See, the children helped name that teddy bear and the other muslims got all up in arms about it forgetting that Mohammed is the number 1 name world wide. But this film is especially dangerous because the children don't know how anti-christian and anti-religious it really is. That's why they need defenders telling them the "truth" about the film and urging them not to see it.

/sarcasm.

Honestly, that's the only thing that I've heard from people like this that I can think of and the argument is not even remotely legitimate.

That's quite a reach for you. Boycotting is not the same as jail time and punishment of individuals.

Is it a sin to call a spade a spade? People need to know what this movie stands for.

People should also have a right to boycott.

Christians claim almost everyone in America is a Christian - justifying calling it a Christian country that needs Christian values and Christian laws. Then they decry a film that is the highest grossing in the country - clearly indicating that America is a country that simply does not give a damn about Christianity.

I think this is a case of Christians taking very careful aim at both of their feet and then releasing both barrels. Lets send out an appeal for bandages.

They're offended by Pullman's interpretation of religion... there's nothing we can do about it. Nice catch on the Mohammad thing, by the way. And they probably did think that the Muslims were overreacting. It's interesting how people can seem completely reasonable and then go do something so extreme.

It's called "Do what I say, not what I do."

Good point though. They're all about blowing up at the Muslim community about the teddy bear incident (which I thought was ridiculous, btw), but also expect it to be justified when they blow-up about a movie.

Abet, the stakes where a little different for each situation.
A. A woman's life and/or prison term with lashings
B. Gross profit on a movie.

lol... now that I think of it, your analogy does fall a little short when you think of the bigger picture.

I don't understand why so many Christians loved seeing Jesus get brutally slaughtered in The Passion, but have a huge problem with taking animal souls. Go figure?

So you feel hurt by this boycott? What do you care? Besides, christians are not calling for the beheading of the author of the movie, like thousands of muslims were calling for the beheading of the schoolteacher. So, there's a HUGE difference here, you're ignoring. Don't try to compare apples to oranges. It makes you look like a moron.

I am simply not seeing the movie because before I knew about all the controversy it just didn't intrest me.
I am not punishing the man who made it because I don't agree with him.

I implied the same thing the other day. Somehow they think it is totally different. The mentality is the same, nobody can do or say anything that is the slightest bit negative to our religion.
