I just joined the navy as an air traffic controller, what do you guys think the chances are that I will be stationed in iraq?

I also have a question about being deployed. How is that life?? Is it true that your 3 weeks out to sea and than about 1 week in port?? Than you only have to work one day while in port and the rest of the times you can do whatever you want??

Navy air traffic controllers are normally assigned to naval air stations ashore and embark in aircraft carriers with the air wings and squadrons they support. With the exception of Bahrain Island and one other island which belongs to Qatr, there are no Navy air assets using shore stations at this time. Most Navy air assets directly supporting Operations Enduring Freedom and Iraqi Freedom are launched and recovered from carriers off-shore, however there are air assets on Diego Garcia Island in the Indian Ocean.
You also could work in your rate and rating on board certain amphibious vessels that utilize helicopters. However, standard amphibious doctrine calls for those Marine units who deploy ashore to transfer that command ashore and use their own air controller personnel.

The majority of Navy in Iraq or even Afganistan is Navy Corpsman. As for Iran their are no Americans being stationed their. Also remember that Iraq has a coastline thats less than 2 miles long. You have more of a chance of going to kuwait than any of those places. Most likely your going to be on the ship more often than anything & if for some reason you go into Iraq or Afganistan you will be in the safest places.

Your chances of going to Iraq are about 90/10. You will definately go to Iraq. Some guys are serving 3 tours there. Risky business. War is not a safe environment. You have to be on your toes at all times in a war zone. Hostile fire can come from anywhere at any time in any place. Come back safe. Good Luck.

Ahmadinejad reported in a speech that he desires to wipe Israel off the map. There are some people who argue with the interpretation yet semantics aside he hates Israel and Jews. approximately 2 months in the past he gave yet another speech bragging approximately 3,000 newly obtained nuclear centrifuges (that's the required kit to advance uranium) that are spinning 24/7. people who think of that Iran isn't attempting to construct a nuclear weapon have their heads interior the sand. i'm no longer advocating an invasion, I purely desire Israel takes the lead in carrying out air strikes on their nuclear centers.

nobody gets stationed there. they only deploy there.

as for underway periods> yeah, right. Not so much. you are underway for however long deemed necessary. could be three MONTHS before you see a port. duty sections while in port depend on many factors, could be no liberty is allowed, could be one day in eight you have Duty.

the chance is slim; pull outs and stand bys are the norm.
you won't have to work hard at all in the forces, as it is considered a govt job.

Patience my boy, patience, time will tell.

If you don't end up by getting enough to do then you can always ask your superior officer for extra tours of duty.
