My brother is headed down a bad path and I feel the military can help. I know you were able to awhile back but is it still possible?

No you can't.

However, if he gets busted, the judge can make the offer of join the army or go to jail...depending on the offense. A guy I served with in Germany was in on that plan.

1. A 17-year old has to consent to his enlistment.
2. His parents have to consent to his enlistment.
3. The military is not a social assistance project set up to serve as a juvenile correction facility. If your brother is getting into trouble in civilian life, the chances are he will continue on that path in the military.

No. All a parent can do is grant permission. The prospective enlistee must sign the paperwork and take the oath or affirmation himself. The services like mature people who are already on a good path, rather than problem cases they have to "raise."

When did you get the idea our nation ever did such a thing? We've had the draft, but that's it.

NO you cannot make someone join the military, the Individual themselves has to enlist themselves. I guess being the sister that you should be, why not try talking to him and trying to knock some sense into him about life and let him know what his options are and why his"path" is not the right way to go.

nope. the military is an all volunteer force and will NOT accept anyone who does NOT want to be there.
at 17, they may only enlist with a HS diploma and parental consent. and don't bother with the "military service or jail time" scenario either. It is illegal for Judges to order that.

I really don't think so. IT is a free country, and he would have to sign on the dotted line that he is enlisting. Don't know if I would want a soldier that was forced to be in fighting for my freedom versus one who is proud to enlist...I mean no sarcasm, just being honest. I wish the best of luck for your brother

If he wants to join the service and has a high school diploma he can join any of the services with your parents permission. If he has a GED then he is limited to the Army with parents permission. All this is based on him wanting to join and doing so. Without the high school education the answer is No, without the parents permission the answer is No and if he does not want to he cannot be forced tooo.

A child can enlist in the Military at 17 years of age with parents concent, so yes. BUT you CANNOT force someone to enlist. The only way one can be forced into the Military is through a draft. Though there is military boarding school, that you CAN do if you are the parent. In your case, being the sister, you'd have to get your parents to ship him off to boarding school.
