I play violin myself, but don't get her anything that has to involve the violin, preferably not music. Sometimes teachers love getting musical presents from their students, but some teachers like getting presents that doesn't have to involve music, so it just really depends.

You have got to be kidding. Instead of trying to reshape Western cultural traditions, don't you think it'd be easier to take a few minutes at your daughter's birthday party to recite her accomplishments to the guests? You could have a poster board with a collage of photos of her accomplishing all those wonderful things and write what each is under the photo. Why do you think anyone should "reward" YOUR child for accomplishing anything? Kids should not be taught that they take music lessons or clean their living space or work to understand their school lessons because they think there are material rewards waiting for them. Music is its own reward. Cleaning her living space is being a contributing member of the family. (as an example) School is their JOB. (another example) I am glad you asked this before they were too old. If I got an invitation for an accomplishment party and found out it was a substitute for a birthday party, I would be confused and think it was a joke.

Yeah. As a violin teacher myself, I'd go for a piece of jewellery for the personal touch. A violin shaped brooch or something like that. Hope this helps.

The usual gift after a recital is flowers.... that's what 99% of the people attending get for someone after a recital, but if this is a gift that you want to be more personal....why not a nice little gold bracelet????

I'd get them a gift certificate to Amazon.com. Look at all the violin stuff available. Look under "ACCESSORIES":
