is Putting a new starter in my 1973 volkswagon beetle, how much am I supposed to pay him? I paid for the parts he needed so what do I pay for the labor keeping in mind I am on a short budget...but he does need cash ....

He is your brother friend. Why would you pay your friend less than you pay other unknown mechanic.

Well the process will take about 30 minutes to an hour and is pretty straightforward.

Aside from the cold beer (when he is done) consider that $25 to $50 is less then a mechanic would have charged you.

(and dont forget the 'thank you' to both the guy and your brother in law (assuming it all works).

pay for his help and not necessarily his time, just let him know he is appreciated. $25 -$50 is enough. besides working on these cars is enjoyable.
