If I'm thinking about something in my head, but never actually do anything? For example if someone says a sacreligious joke, and I feel like laughing, but stop myself, does this count as a sin?

Thoughts can be considered sins.
But seriously, don't worry yourself with this.
Everyone sins, that is part of being human.
Lead the best life you can and do good to those around you.

A sin has to do with intention, if we intend to knowingly go against God that is a sin.

We are souls having a human experience and so we are still learning and are not perfect. So the fact that you are becoming aware of your thoughts is a good start. With practice you can get to the place where you will love and respect all (including self) without judgment. In the mean time just do the best you can each day and know that we all make errors. It's long hard road, but I'm going to get there...

A sin is your judgment of yourself.
A lot of the laws passed by politicians and interpreted by influential leaders and rulers are considered sins.
Jesus did not judge anyone -neither the prostitute nor the money changers.
It is men who pass laws, judge other people and condemn them.
You have to judge for your self whether anything is a sin and not get punished by the laws of the country.
The creator did not partition the earth and give it to the different nations.
Nor did he give fruit trees and wheat to anyone in particular.
"give unto Caesar what is Caesar's and to god what is god's."

Sin becomes sin when it is acted upon. Thots not acted on are not sin. Your focus shouldnt be on sin but on the wonderful things God accomplished on your behalf when He put all those sins into the ground and out of His sight forever. He isnt focusing on your sins any longer, thats what the Cross is all about.

You have a new identity today as a member of the Body of Christ. You will never be sinless, but as you grow in grace and learn how to walk in the Spirit and not in the flesh, you WILL sin less.

James 1:13-18

When tempted, no one should say, "God is tempting me." For God cannot be tempted by evil, nor does he tempt anyone; but each one is tempted when, by his own evil desire, he is dragged away and enticed. Then, after desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and sin, when it is full-grown, gives birth to death.

Don't be deceived, my dear brothers. Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows. He chose to give us birth though the word of truth, that we might be a kind of firstfruits of all he created.

Romans 14:22-23

So whatever you believe about these things keep between yourself and God. Blessed is the man who does not condemn himself by what he approves. But the man who has doubts is condemned if he eats, because his eating is not from faith; and everything that does not come from faith is sin.

In the scripture in Romans, Paul is referring to what people believe about eating certain foods but his point of fact is....
"EVERYTHING THAT DOES NOT COME FROM FAITH IS SIN."

That is why we need a savior. That is why we need Jesus to be our strength.

No it's not a sin. Everyone would be sinning 24/7 if it worked like that. Don't worry about it.

Somewhat. Try not to, it is kind of hard because it somewhat just pops in your head, but yes, it is a sin.

The Bible tells us that if we are doing something and we know it is wrong but do it anyway, that is sin. So figure it out for yourself.
