It is not kidnapping. The cat needs you and you need it just consider it a gift from God.

I think it's called karma, i'm so sorry you lost your old cat but be thankful she lived to 23, she must have been very happy & well looked after. Cats definately choose you, nearly all of our cats have been strays or just moved in. Let your new cat stay & believe me she's yours now, lol!! So long as no-one is looking for the kitty, I think you should open the door & put the fire on for her :-)

Aww, looks like someone adopted YOU. As other posters have pointed out, make sure she's not just someone's lost pet, because if she is, you have to take her back to her family. If she's not someone's baby, well, she's yours. Make sure she has all her shots and gets spayed.
I have no problem with people taking in strays, provided said stray is willing to become a housecat. If things don't work out with this kitty for whatever reason, and you decide you want another pet, then you should go to the shelter.

Sorry to hear about your elderly girl. The new little cat won't replace her, but will fill your empty arms. If she is sad and thin, either she has no owner, or has been neglected. Cats find themselves a better home if they don't like the one they've got.
The only warning I would make is that if the real owner comes along, you may have to give her up. Otherwise, enjoy her.

Sorry for your loss. You must have taken excellent care of your cat for them to have reached the age of 23.
I think you should begin feeding the stray as it doesn't sound like they currently have someone taking care of them. You could put a "cat found" poster in local shop windows and if no-one comes forward to claim her, then I guess she's yours.
Cats have a way of choosing their owners and I've noticed that whenever one of mine has died, that shortly after, a neglected cat has suddenly turned up at my door looking for food and shelter. (I'm beginning to wonder if word goes around on the feline grapevine that there's a vacancy at my home.)

Go for it unless there are signs up or word of mouth going around for someone looking for the cat. Do keep in mind that animal shelters are always looking for someone to take their cats.
As for the desperate for love, I'm not sure a cat is the right answer.

Of course you should take her. You cannot leave it outside. And it's not kidnapping if it doesn't have a owner. This is meant to be. It has happened to me often. I will have one cat for years without any other cat visitors and then within a week or two of the one dying another one appears. Sometimes big ones and sometimes kittens.

I would totally take her in! BUt put up signs around the neighborhood just in case, but it sounds like she's been on her own for a while. I feel for you, my cat of 21 died right before Thanksgiving :-( If she does belong to somebody, I would go to the local shelter and get a new kitty to love.

legally after 7 days, as long as you have tried to find the owner, the cat is yours.
BTW similar to what happened to me. My cat was run over and a week later a pure white cat followed me home and refused to leave. Maybe they can sense that some humans need a cat.

Go for it. I won't say anything. You must be a loving person to have a cat for 23 years. I hope your new cat gives you 23 more years.
